hi, a friend asked me if he could achieve dtshd or dolby hd on his older yamaha amp... i told him that he could get a bluray player with multi-channel analogue outs and connect those to his amp's multi channel in's & that the bluray player would do the decoding and the amp just doing the amplification thus achieving the hd sound he wants. have i given him correct info on this? as he went into a local dealer and they said that i had given him incorrect information & that it wouldnt work using the multichannel outs & ins... can someone help on this matter please?

Sounds like the shop wanted an extra sale or are poorly informed...either way, tell your friend to give a wide birth.

thanks for that guy's, thought i was going mad 🙂 don't suppose you could suggest a couple of bluray players with the multi-channel outs for my mate could you? thanks again!

Personally, I'd go for the Cambridge Audio Azur 650BD.

Cheaper end of scale is panasonic BDMP85 good detailed audio settings, LGBD390 which I have and use multich outs to amp input however the audio settings within BD player are not the best. I'm hoping to replace with the panny. Both last summer was around 250ish.

Hope this helps. Which amp has he got?
