MQA progress report

So Warner Bros are in, great - that's Neil Young covered. Trouble is Universal remains the largest label and they and others have yet to throw their hat in.

Warner Bros is a big win, and I am pretty enthusiastic about MQA, but I have the nagging feeling it's dead in the water. In IT if you uncover a new technology it is almost always immediately implementable. Sadly not so here.

True it's been around now long enough, if people where interested it should have taken off in a big way long before now but it hasn't. It's only really likely to benefit the streamers out there anyway. Perhaps good to see he's being persistent though.

Thanks, interesting read. When I first heard about it I thought it seemed almost too good to be true - no real downsides. If / when someone thinks they can make some real money out of it, we might see action.

Not too sure about this. Doubt Cyrus will support it, Linn absolutely won't, a few Japanese makers like Pioneer will. Naim can enable it via a firmware update in their new Uniti range.

And for the most benefit it has to be implemented at the DAC stage.

But more important than this, Sony and Universal records must come onboard.

In addition, it's ironic that youth, albeit briefly, latched on to vinyl but not onto hires audio. Try selling them MQA - Meridian needs to wage a massive marketing campaign and create demand for it.
