Yes
I have a personal DAP with DSD/flac high res capability.
Far better quality.
As a matter of fact, I'm on the Thameslink to London, tapping away on my phone to you, while listening to music on my DAP.
Look at this way, you save your battery on your phone and why do you want all the distractions? ☺️

Depends. The Cobalt isn't such a great performer https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...balt-review-portable-headphone-adapter.23015/
You can improve on it be it with a DAP or with a better dongle.

In support of the other column, I just use my iPhone and BT headphones (AirPods or Sony CH720Ns) for commuting as the sound is sufficient and I can't be bothered carrying extra items. I do have a Audiquest DAC dongle, but almost never use it.
