"It must be love". by Labbi Siffre. Although I definitely prefer the Madness version.

Isn't the point of a mix tape, or mix cd, or mix whatever else that it should be intimate and personal?

In other words, an eclectic selection of tracks suggested by people on a hi-fi forum may make for a great compilation, but it won't mean so much to your other half. Presumably there are songs that mean a great deal to you both and really help you connect.

Forgive me, but consulting a bunch of near-strangers seems a rather clinical way to approach this. :shifty:

:wall: :shame:

So I gather you never buy any cd, record with the words ' BEST OFF' in the title!!!!

And how many songs can someone have that are intimate with their other half, 1, 2,3...4 Don't think they can complete even a normal CD.......

But romantic and meaningful are seperate are they not? None of the songs considered meaningful by my wife and I would be considered romantic, and would make for a bad valentines comp. Well, except for the Regina track earlier. The meaningful tracks are tied to memories, and as we generally don't listen to romantic music none of the good memories are attached to romantic tunes!

The head-banging and finger wagging seem a little unnecessary. For the record, I've never bought any music with "BEST OFF" in the title.

With regard to your second point, I guess it depends on the couple, the length of time they've been together, and the extent to which their tastes match. A song needn't be widely regarded as romantic to spark romantic memories. It doesn't have to be a great song, either.

I'm perfectly happy to concede that some filler might be needed; but I stick by my point that compiling a track list by poll seems rather impersonal.

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. Indeed, songs that are ostensibly unromantic can still evoke memories of strong connection.

Anyway, I'll leave it there. I thought my post might upset a few, though I still feel a mix tape should be more personal...

Oh I would say ambivalent rather than upset :)

As popularised by Fatal Attraction progenitor Play Misty for Me... Nice song, though.

I'll get my coat. I've caused enough upset for one day.
