A pair of Sugden Masterclass Monoblock power amps are up for sale at £3500. My question is do they run off the power amp, or the pre amp, will they show significant detail and power compaired to a power amp, are they worth the asking price. Thanks all.

John

These will run off your pre-amp. They'll be quite a step up from your Bijou power amp!!

Power, control, effortless dynamics, no strain/clipping, just music......well, more music

Oh, and your imaging would be much better too as the left and right signal is being dealt with separately at the power amp stage.

Thanks David, nice to hear from you again, price wise are they worth it ?

I can't remember their normal price, but I'd much rahter go for Sugden than many other bands!! Are they the older 'mirror' style or the newer matt type finish?

Ad says they are only 3 months old, never been used so think might be newer versions. If they run off the pre amp then is it only one interconnect to each monoblock and then one set of speaker wires to the speaker.

Yes, left to one and right to the other. Bonus if they're the newer casings, which look much better than the old ones. If you like Sudgen, you should love these, which will pretty much drive anything, so you may not need any power amplification ever again!

Thanks David, yea love Sugden hi-fi, built like a truck from solid metal all top notch inside i was told, just have to be extra nice to the wife if i decide to buy. I,ll also tell her that you said i would never need to buy another amp ever again, so i can blame you. lol

i heard the master class cdp and pre power last weekend, had no problems grabbing some dynaudio focus 220 by the neck. very nice sound, massive build.

I had been contemplating mono amps as a few Arcam C31 pre's and the P1 monoblocks have been up for sale recently on eBay...

That set-up (pre and mono's, not just Arcam) seem to get rave reviews and also they have bags of power!

Shame they keep their value but I suppose that's good in the long run!

I'd never heard of them, so did a little googling. Retail for six grand, new, and one review said:

'Expensive, make no doubt, but at the very top of the pile when it comes to musical enjoyment. One of the best sounds to be found in solid state audio'

Are you getting them? If you are, i'm just a lot jealous!

Is that each or for a pair

That's for the pair, although prices seem to differ greatly from site to site. Six grand was the cheapest I saw, a few quoted just under £7000 and one was a mammouth £8400 for the pair.

For any other Sugden fans out there, there's this beast on flea-bay:

Here

From what i've been reading tonight, I'd like to hear some of Sugden's gear.
