Im hopefully now changing my speakers to Monitor Audio RS8's, RSFX or RS1s for rears and the RSLCR centre i was wondering whether to get the RSW12 sub or keep my Rel Stampede which i know was a 5 star award winner a few years back im guessing the monitor audio will integrate better in the system is it a better sub? Ive always liked the Rel. Im also guessing the RSFX are better as rears over the RS1's? Thanks

Right, well I love my RSW12 - it is astonishing. However, if you are happy with your REL, I would think twice - it's a lot of money to spend when you are already content - if you can afford it though - go for it! As for your rear speakers, I would say that the RS1s are better by a fair bit - and they look nicer.

Thanks im trying to find somewhere close to demo the rs1s vs the rsfx but no luck yet anyone else compared the two sets i know the whf review was with the RSFX as thats whats in the package i was just curious as the RS1s are supposed to be very good speakers.

Try Sevenoaks, they should be able to demo both for you.

Yes i did think of them unfortunately my local one shut down a little while ago the nearest one isnt a long way away think it was around 40miles but its finding the time! Thanks for your replies.

I would definitely listen to the RSFX vs RS1's for rear channel as they are VERY different speakers and which you choose will more than likely depend on the kind of sounds you're looking for. The RS1's are standard speakers whereas the RSFX are designed for the surround role and can be swtiched bipole / dipole depending on siting and whether you have them in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup. I have the RSFX and in the surround role, they're spot on - and quite discreet too - they give a lovely dispersed encompassing surround effect whereas the RS1's will be very much a pint source.

Both are good speakers so see which you prefer. I bought my Velodyne CHT-R12 sub before I got the RS6's and RSLCR etc and it fits in beautifully but I've often wondered if the MA sub would integrate better. I tend to agree with Gerrard here though - the Stampede is a stupendous sub and I really cant see you gaining much by changing it. I guess if you have some cash to burn, you could add the MA as a second sub ; )

That would be fun to hear - the RSW12 as an additional sub - your neighbours (even if you are detached) will think that there has been an earthquake!!

Looks like ill stick with the Rel at the minute i dont think the gf or anyone living nearby would be too impressed by a second sub! Theres too much i want at the minute anyways!

I like the MA sub but hate all the other MA speakers you have, sorry. Woofle, woofle, no real clarity and innacurate vocal/piano sound, of course on AV they may be less objectionable. The sub is better than the REL though, have to admit.

You could always take your Rel sub along with you if you went for a demo of the MA speakers. Best way to compare both subs with the MA's.

What a load of rubbish - apart from the sub being good.

My RS6s give me a very accurate sound - tight bass and real clarity.

Seconded

I've never really been a big fan of REL since the early/mid nineties. At that time they had some great models out, but then they started downsizing in the late nineties, and for me, lost what REL were all about.

The MA subs are decent subs. Maybe not the very best for the money, but solid build quality, look good, and will compliment your MA set up just fine.
