monitor audio rx2

Great sounding speaker. It sort of goes back to the old skool of standmount speakers - big cabinet and a bigger than average bass driver. Plenty of guts and power. The Atacama HMS2 stands are highly recommended for them due to their large top and bottom plate, providing a solid foundation to get the best from them.

thanks david. any recommendations on cd and amp my room size is 5 mtr * 3.6mtr.

cheers

hi david

i had a budget of around 2- 2500 pounds($nz6000-7000) for speakers cd amp and stands etc.my musical tastes are varied.

cheers

Firstly, I'll just recommend a system for that budget. I'd go with either a Naim Nait 5i and Naim CD5i combo with the Rega RS1's.

Secondly, before being to make a strong recommendation, what size room will it be used in, and how loud you like to play your music? Is it heavily furnished, or quite reflective (laminated floors, reflective)?

hi thanks for the reply my room size is 6mtr *4mtrs i use around 4mtrs*4mtrs of it 'it has a concrete floor a lounge suite carpeted a couple of windows with drapes. i dont usually go pass 12 ocock on the vol control .

hope this helps .

cheers

Are you aware that the 12 o'clock position on most amplifiers is their maximum output? Many amps at this point are giving their all, and so will have very little in reserve for any sudden transients.

In this case, I'd recommend the Audiolab 8000s pre amplifier, and two 8000m monoblock amplifiers, which can be had for around £1,000. This may sound a little excessive, but with 125wpc on tap, you're less likely to run out of power when you need it. Most other amplifiers around this price point won't touch them for power output, although one or two might be a little better musically. Add to that a pair of Monitor Audio RX6's, Wharfedale Diamond 10.7's, or Mordaunt Short Aviano 8's, and you'll have a pretty powerful set up. Like I said, the system may not be the very best sounding you'll get, as my original system recommendation will sound better, but you need to make sacrifices in order to make sure you don't damage anything when you want a bit of a blast.

Then spend your remaining budget on a CD player - a Rega Apollo is quite a smooth player that won't get too harsh when turned up, and maybe a good quality Marantz or Yamaha CD will fit the bill for you.

thanks for that i didnt relise i had put 12 oclock should have been 10 o clock sorry about that .

i'm not worried about to much power was thinking around the 60wpc . any other suggestions.

cheers.

hi david thanks for that cd player naim or the rega apollo and maybe chord speaker cables and interconnects .

i know that at the end of the day i will have to sit down and listern to a few combinations to see whats best for me.

cheers

Interesting. At night when the kids are sleeping, I listen at 7 to 7:30 on the volume knob. Daytime, I'm typically around 9:00. When I really want to crank it, I'm at 10. Usually even 9:30 is loud enough for me. Of course this is completely dependent on the amp. I remember someone posting once that Roksan amps require you to turn the volume way past 12,,,

If you like a lively sound, the Naim CD5i, and if you like things a little more laid back, the rega Apollo.

7:30?! That's ultra precise Jax! How about 7:37?

I find that with the Roksan too Jax. It does require a bit of cranking up to get some volume from it. I prefer a little more going on lower down on the volume control myself.

rega r1 or mointor audio rx1

thinking of using chord cobra and carnival silver screen. for both systems.

any thoughts

Either will be excellent sounding systems. The Rega RS1's are the more musically convincing speakers in my opinion, and are more room friendly, but the RX1's will be better for volume and for louder dance/rock music. The Rega's excel with 'real' instruments.

thanks for that i will listern to both systems i play a wide range of music in which i like to hear the instruments/vocals any suggestions on stands.

cheers

Something hefty! The RS1's aren't very heavy, so a weighty stand will improve their bass response. You'd have to check the top plate sizes as the RS1's aren't very wide. I'd either recommend a single large column or 3 or 4 smaller ones - and definitely filled, either with sand or Atabites.

The RX1's are a little heavier, but I'd apply the same stand recommendations.

thanks for your help david i'm of to check out these systems.

cheers
