Current setup is Yamaha BD-A1010 DVD player, Yamaha RX-A3010 Receiver and Monitor Audio Gold Refernce GS20 speakers including centre speaker ( no surrounds or sub woofer) and music on .wav format on iPod (lossless) played through USB on A3010 so users Receiver DAC. Want to upgrade speakers - would Monitor Audio PL200s or B&W 804 Diamonds be overkill with this setup. Cost is high so don't want to upgrade to speakers that are "too good" for the source kit. Any advice/opinion greatly appreciated.

What are you currently running your GS20's with?

While a 3010 will drive the PL200's, it'll not be bringing out anywhere near the best in them. I would suggest adding a power amp first to start get the most from your speaker package (assuming you already have a lesser amp than the 3010). A minimum for the Platinums would be something like the Audiolab 8200AP/8200x7 package.

If you are talking just for music, buy a stereo amp instead if upgrading your speakers - unless you can do both. I have the 3010 and whilst it is brilliant for movies, it gets nowhere near my Moon amp for music.

Thanks for the advice. It does l seem that I need to invest in stereo amplification. I currently use that A3010. I'll give the Audiolabs combo a try. Any view on Plinius amps? Many thanks for the informative advice.
