I have the RX6 speakers and understand that there is now a new model called silver 6.
Has anyone heard or seen them and are they much different to the old model RX6, is it worth upgrading to them

Funnily enough I'm still at work proof-reading our First Test of them that will appear in the December issue of the mag, on sale November 19th ;)

I wonder how much difference there's going to be between the RX series and the new Silver series, and if it would be worth the extra cash.

About 25% more expensive, as the 6's will be £1000.

Hi Peptdi

Or £1100 in Gloss Black/White
smiley-smile.gif

Btw, the new Silver 6's are superb :rockout: The Silver 6's have an even greater jump up in performance over the Silver RX6's then the Silver RX6's had over the Silver RS6's. Well done Monitor Audio

Having said this with all things being equal the new Silver 8's are much better still  for not much more

Having said that the new Silver 10's look like they mean business

All the best

Having auditioned MA speakers I can only suggest that you take a piece of piano music along with you. I've not heard one that can make a piano sound like a piano.

I doubt WHFI will do this!

I can't comment on the speakers themselves but are you unhappy with yours or is it upgraditis and the fear of knowing there may be something better out there?

We have all been there!

The new Silver series is quite a step up. There are numerous improvements, and my guess is that these will address the issues you have experienced.

I would say, yes. While the Silver 6 now costs the same as the old RX8, they are a much better sounding speaker, as well as being a more manageable size (similar in size to the old RX6. The cabinets seem better constructed with regard to being less obtrusive - the cabinets don't seem to be drawing attention to the speaker. They don't feel any heavier, but I'm guessing they're either better braced or better damped. Along with the new bass driver, the better cabinet aid bass performance. It is now nicely 'damped', allowing better detail and texture. Treble is a little smoother, without losing excitement. Both treble and midrange are more 'three dimensional', and project very well out of the box.

The Silver 8 are excellent too. Not as big a speaker as the old RX8 (not as deep), but again, better sounding. I always preferred the balance of the RX6 over the RX8, but this time round, the Silver 8 offer a genuine upgrade over the 6, without affecting overall tonal balance. The 10's are a little different, and I'm still getting to grips with them.

I'll stick with my KEFs, they didn't have the problem in the first place.

I don't agree with this I have a lot of piano music and on one particular piece Beethoven Piano Concerto no 3 it seems like the piano is actually in my room when listening

It's possible that you are both right.......the same speakers can sound quite different depending on the room acoustics and the rest of the system.

Yup - I'm the perfect example. The RS6s and Leema sounds awesomely realistic.

My view is admittedly limited. I don't have the time to go around listening to lots of kit. All I know is that when I was auditioning I had come down to a choice between the KefQ500s and the MAs and I was actually leaning towards the MAs. I thought they were both great speakers, the Kefs more analytical which was great for music like solo lute, the MAs more intergrated which was great for rock music. I then took out my CD of Marta Agerich playing the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto 3 (which I had taken along as an afterthought) and listened to it on both. I was extremely surprised by the outcome because on the Kefs this famous live performance was conveyed perfectly but on the MAs the piano sounded odd. The guy doing the auditioning, who was incredibly patient, couldn't hear it.

This isn't very scientific, not double-blind or even single-blind, so maybe there was some expectation bias but I've owned both MA and Kef speakers in the past and think they are both top class manufacturers. CNo may be correct that on another day in another room I wouldn't have heard it but on the day I did.

Think it also comes down to amplification. I've mentioned so many times that MAs, especially RS6s, needs to be top-not to make them sing: Not from a power point of view, but an amp that'll 'crack the whip' - so to speak - as the Silvers can sound overblown (and a little sterile with live tracks) at both extremes with lesser amps.

I had a few gripes with my system for a while, I have a laminate floor and found some harshness with some recordings, but have now put a carpet between the speakers and sofa and find that it now sounds great.
Rest of the system is Arcam FMJ A19 amplifier, Audiolab 8200 CD player, MA RX6 speakers, Chord Crimson interconnects and Audio quest Flx speaker cable.
I find that I am now very pleased with the sound, plenty of bass weight, nice and smooth violins, great for piano and brilliant on rock music.

Are the silver 8 and 10 based at all on the pl200 and pl300?

Or were the drivers developed seperately/from gx?

I wouldn't say that the Silver series is based directly on the Platinum models, but the driver technology used in the Gold and Platinum ranges do filter down over time to the Silver and Bronze ranges.

I'd agree - another RS6 + Leema happy owner :)

Hi Rick how do you think the new silver 6s would work with an Arcam FMJA19 amplifier and an Audiolab 8200 cd player?
