5 Months down the line - I wonder what you ended up with?

I am about to trial a pair of GX50's which I compared with a pair of PMC Twenty:21's for a while in the room above Sevenoaks Sound & Vision in Bromley. They were fed by a Cyrus CD & integrated amp (8 series). They gave me a dozen CDs and left me to listen, reposition or swap the speakers as I wished for around 90 minutes. Could have had longer if I wished. I chose 4 CD's; Thriller, some classical piano, Maria Callas, and a string quartet (can't remember exact details)

I listened to the GX50's first at fairly high sound level and found them detailed, open, with tight bass, but a bit forward, hard even, however with classical piano I thought them totally great, like liquid, with Callas also great except when she raised the volume at which point they became a little shouty. The PMC's at the same sound level seemed rather ordinary, less detailed, slightly shut in, though with better bass extension (but rather less tight). Overall this was not what I had expected - I had thought the PMC's would win by a mile! I would not have chosen either as I don't like forward/hard speakers, nor boring ones either.

However I decided to listen again at the sort of level I would normally use at home in my small/medium room - a level that would not annoy the neighbours!

At this point the GX50's lost thier shouty/forward nature and became....... wow! So now I have them for 2 or 3 weeks on approval.

I have a Cyrus Stream X with pretty much my whole CD collection ripped and stored on a NAS Drive which is attached to my router & connected to my streamer using a Homeplug system. It also links to TuneIn internet radio, (Linn Radio are on their, and a couple of Netherlands staions are broadcasting at 1000kbps so might be worth a listen.

My new Cyrus 8 XP d QX integrated amp (70wpc) should arrive tomorrow, so the listening will begin.

I wonder how I will feel about the speakers in a couple of weeks.
