Monitor Audio Bronze BX2 or Silver RX1?

Hello all,

at the moment i own a Marantz amplifier (PM-66 SE) and i'm planning in buying a new set of speakers.

I'm very inclined towards one of these new Monitor Audio speakers, since i've read very good reviews, and from the listening I already did, enjoyed both very much.

My doubt is simple.

My room is small (4 x 3,5 meters) and I have to place them relativelly close to the wall, but what confuses me, is the simple fact that these 2 models are from diferent Monitor Audio lines.

Do you think that the Silver series is much better than the Bronze series?

you may have problems with the rx1s if they are placed to close to a wall i sold mine found them to boomy and uncontrolled in the bass department however this is only my opinion and others love them on the forum .best to get a home demo if you can

I am using MA RX1 on my wall cabinet. The only possible problem you might encounter is the boomy sound it produces because its port holes are at the back of the speakers. The only way to control the boomy bass is by using bass traps which I am using now.

With 2 bass traps putting behind the wall corners of the speakers there is no more boomy effect and the bass is dead solid.

Just search bass traps in e-bay and you can order them if you wish.

RX1 are great speakers... as long as you can place them properly...

they must be at 50/60 cm minimum from the back wall...otherwise bass can become excessive

in all other areas they are propably better than BX series

I think because of your available space, the BX2's maybe a better option. They are not too fussy about positioning and as they're front ported, won't mind being close to a wall. I don't think you'll get the same flexibility and response from the rear ported RXs's. I have a pair of BR2's (which are close to a wall) and they sound superb. A demo is always in order, at least to check the speaker's integration with the rest of your kit.

You definitelly hit the point.

At the moment I have a set of speakers rear ported, and i have to place them almost 40 cm from the wall to get bass more controlled.

I confess I like both very much (aesthetically), and I really love the Silver RX series. That woofer really "rocks my boat".

But i'm almost convinced that I have to take the more sensible decision and go for the BX2.

Besides, I have an old amplifier, and the more logical step is to go for the less expensive ones, and in a 1 or 2 year, consider an upgrade for my kit.

I'm going to check those bass traps, and see if that is the way to go.

With BX2 you wonït need bass traps...

and like I said, with RX1 you will need a minimum 50/60 cm from the back wall... if you only have 40 cm available... choose a front ported speaker...like BX2...

I dont think you can go far wrong (aesthetically) with the BX2's, they're georgeous!

Yes they are gorgeous.

And melosoares, when I said i'm going to check those bass traps, I was talking in the possibility on buying the RX1's.

But I already decided. Going for the BX2.

Now I need to find a decent store to test them here in Portugal.
