I am in the process of putting together the Monitor audio apex set up. I have everything apart from the sub.

The only thing that is putting me off from buying it is the £950 price tag it has. I don't know a thing about sub but I know a lot of you on here do. So surely there must be something out there is better or the same as the aw12 but doesn't cost the earth. Can some one recommend a good alternative to the aw12 please.

Hi magmax

The AW-12 is an excellent sub. The AW-12's styling, build, fit, finish and ultimately quality of performance matches that of the A10's/A40's which i feel justifies it asking price :)

What AV amp will you be using?

All the best

Hello Rick,

Just the answer I didn't want to hear

. I know that the Apex range are matched for a reason to get the best out of each other. I was just trying to save a bit of cash so I could start to think about buying a new TV and amp as well.

I only have a Denon 1910 at the mo.

Thanks mate.. Oh well... I know I'll have to get an AW12 eventually... it never ends..

The AW-12 will be the icing on an already exceedingly good cake

The AVR1910 will do an admirable job with the Apex sub/sats and the speakers big performance potential will enable you to partner them with even higher quality of amplification :)

All the best

Have a look at the bk xls400, it's around £400 you get a lot of subwoofer for your money- you'd have to spend a quite a lot more to better it's performance.

Although as mentioned above it would be preferable to stick with the Apex sub, I don't feel it's completely necessary, especially if it frees up some cash. I demoed this sub, before deciding on the RXW12. For the difference in performance, the fact mine is hidden from view and it being much cheaper I went down this route. My room is 6.8 x 3.2m and it integrates really well with the Apex.

As I have a inquisitive toddler and the aw12 has an open speaker I bought a Velodyne SPL-800 Ultra to go with my Apex system. To be honest it does not really suit the system as a whole and I now wish I’d stuck with the MA unit. Sorry!
