Hi there,

this is my first post ever so here goes,

I have a nice new 42 inch Pana plasma the one with HD freeview and need a nice new

surround setup that looks and sounds good. I love the mission cubes with the changing colour

outers but they are £500, the Q acoustics are £500 BUT are ugly black boxes, but sound fantstic, and then there

is the Jamos (A102HCS5)  which look ok if a bit forgettable but are a lovely £250.

So what do we think people 1) looks over performance - mission

2) performance over looks - Q acoustics

3)  A bit of both and a spare 250 to spend on designer toys? or the new Yamaha DSP-AX763?

Any help much appreciated - just so you know this is my first surround set up

looking for nice surround sound I probably would not know the difference between some £5000

system and a £500 one!

Oh also are there any other surround systems that don't break the bank that look amazing ?

All these will be used with the sony best buy amp  the Sony STR-DG820 unless you guys think I should change this too!!

I think the Sony is a perfectly sensible buy.

The Q Acoustics would certainly deliver the best sound, and the Mission M-Cube system is really rather good, especially at that price. The Jamos would, I think, be outclassed by either of these.

But if you're thinking of spending £500 or so on a set of speakers, why not consider these Tannoy Arenas, which are excellent? They tick the style and performance boxes...

They look great,ÿ

ÿ

Oh also I was slightly concerned about the Mision cubes speakers all connecting to the sub not to the amp

as you would expect, is this an issue or not?

ÿ

Oh my blu ray player is a ps3 just in case

ÿ

basically I'm after the best looking amp and 5.1 speaker system I can get my hands on for around 700.

i hear ONKYO are doing a 5.1 speaker package with amp theÿHT-S5105

any word what these are like?ÿ

No, not a problem with the Mission hook-up - it's just designed to tidy the cabling.

No problem with the PS3 - the Sony will take the HD soundtracks as Linear PCM from the console.

Haven't tested the Onkyo, but confident you won't go wrong with the Sony and Tannoys...

So I'm guessing the only leads I need with the Mission and sony amp set up is 1) an HDMI cable for sony amp to panna tv and 2) a cable for sub to sony amp?

ÿ

Is this right?ÿ

ÿ

Just two last Q's!

ÿ

It doesn't matter thatÿtheÿmission are a few years old does it - they should be still fine?

Also let me know if there are any other great all in ones fro £500 odd, would be a great help,

ÿ

Oh rubbish, also, can u recomend a good HDMI cable i guess I will only need like 0.5m length? Or should I just buy some cheapo one from wherever?

No, the age of the Missions doesn't matter, but the Tannoys will still outperform them.

Don't really know of any all-in-ones for this kind of money that'd come anywhere near.

HDMI cables? Now that is a can of worms, as you'll see if you search for HDMI on these forums. In my opinion, something like QED HDMI-P would be fine for this set-up.
