I have some of these discs (Memorex) and would like to record some music onto them - probably using Windows Media Player on my laptop as my home PC (with Roxio) will not burn mini CD-r's. My question is:- For the 24 mins / 210MB quoted on the disc label - what bit rate is this using ? I know that a balance has to be struck between compression and sound quality, so for normal usage and also to store approx 20-30mins of music per CD - which rip rate should I use ? Also any recommendation re the format to use ? Apologies if this appears to be a dim question... Many thanks.

That capacity is stated at standard CD bitrate, which is around 1411kbps. So to get 24 mins on the disc, you should just copy the files as standard .WAV or .AIFF files - depending on the computer you're using. In very rough terms, go down to 320kbps MP3 and you'll get about four times as much music on each disc, or if you use FLAC or Apple Lossless you should get about twice as much.

If it's to play in a normal CD player, the bitrate ends up at 1411k anyway, and that 24 mins is correct. If it's to burn mp3s etc then I'd stick to 256/320.
