hi i am thinking of getting a micro system, i want to connect my tv to it, my budget £250

A decent micro at £250 might be squeezing it a bit. If you look at some of the threads you will see that the Denon DM37 is the most favoured micro around at the moment. The unit itself is around the £200 mark, but then you'll need speakers which is going to cost you a further £100 - £150 depending on what you go for. Most people appear to have gone for Tannoy Mercury F1, Wharfedale Diamond 9, MS 902i or MA BR1 which all fall within that price bracket. You might be lucky on ebay with speakers which could bring you closer to your budget.

Another option may be the Onkyo micro. The CS-325 has been around for a couple of years now and there may be more availability of those on ebay at reasonable prices. (No bargain DM37s on it yet, too new methinks).

Hi Paul, I take it you're going this route rather than the Active Speaker solution you were asking about a few weeks back. Just noticed the Onkyo CS325 on ebay at 'buy it now price' of £149.99. Rather tempting isn't it?

Ive got Denon RCD-M37 which i run my TV through. Got Q Acoustic 1010s but thinking of upgrading to Tannoy Mercury F1 customs. Would this be good upgrade or would i have to spend bit more to make it worthwhile. Listen to rock music. Open to suggestions.

Rock fan eh! Well thats my scene too. I've got absolutely no doubt that the Tannoy F1 is a great speaker with the DM37, I know there's at least a couple of forum members who swear by that combo. But before you take the leap and get them, try to get a listen to the 37 running into MA BR1s. That was the combo that Sevenoaks Sound were marketing. The BR1 has not been reviewed in WHF but I think all the rest of the range has been with pretty impressive ratings.

This combo is the one I ended up with and I reckon 'rock' sounds GREAT through it.

Thanks for that advice 8009514. Il try and audition them. Got to check size as well cos ive got speakers on a shelf which is 250mm wide. so ive got to make sure they fit.

Got to be some who went with the whole Denon package, but can't think of anyone from these forums off the top of my head. You've probably seen yourself that Tannoy, MA, MS, etc seem to be the favoured choices. But I'm sure that the Denon speakers must be OK though as the WHF review was done with them, and it did achieve the 5 star rating as a result. So I suppose its a case of drawing your own conclusions from that.

Hopefully someone who has the speakers will post up their thoughts on them.

@ Baldybonce. No offence but ANY upgrade isn't going to be a good idea if you're going to place your speakers on a shelf. I would invest in some decent speaker stands first and you may well find you don't even need to upgrade your speakers. The difference it made to my set up was truly amazing and just like having a brand new system.

What your saying is right Sizzers, but you wanna see my set up! Got everything on a tv stand with shelf above for speakers. Not ideal i know, but door at one side and heater at the other so no choice. Will Tannoy customs work backed up to a wall? Anybody else had to do this?

Well they come with a bung for the front reflex port which they suggest you use if your speakers are going to be backed up against/near a wall. Haven't tried this myself as had no need to but would suggest you start a seperate post as this one is going off topic a bit.

You got wall space for proper wall mounted speaker brackets? Not as good as stands but much better than shelf. It works for me.

Why dont speakers like shelves? Is it because theres no space round the back of em? Dont know whether brackets would work in here above me tv.
