The MF M3si seems interesting. Not too expensive en power enough. But is it a good match with the Kef R500? Anyone know? Is it rocksolid en warm with sweets highs for rockmusic?

The KEF R500s would appreciate a more powerfull amplifier with 4 ohms rating, especially considering they go down to 3.2 ohms. IMO not powerfull enough.

I didn't like the M3si when I auditioned it with these speakers. The Cyrus 8Se was much better as was the Marantx PM8005 that I actually bought. There wasn't much rock in my audition so may not be a fair test for you. I would try to listen to the speakers with all 3.

Chris

PS The Kef R700s are better!

Convenanter; why did you buy the Marantz? It seems when ik look at it it isn't powerful. And isn't it a bright amp?

What will be a good warm sounding amp for the Kef R500? There are so many brands. What about Electrocompaniet ECi 3 (expensive) or Hegel 80.

There's been a few MF M6i's going for between £1000-1500 lately on ebay now the newer models have come out. Could be a good deal price wise and more power if you dont mind buying second hand?

If you want an amp that is very similar to the Electrocompaniet ECI3 and designed by the same person but is one quarter of the price at the moment , then this Abrahamsen v 2.0 integrated amp for around £500 plus delivery might be of interest to you *biggrin*

And listen for what? Pixie fairies coming out of the speaker terminals?

I suspect it was the M3i that you heard (apologies if I'm wrong).....the M3si is very new and supposed to be a good upgrade (which doesn't mean you'd like it any better).

Vlad.. I do appreciate some of your inputs here .. but sometimes its quite sickening! I know you're a techie guy but tha's not its all about "SIR"..It's our ears and budget to decide ...

Do you think the opinion I gave was inaccurate or in any way misleading, stemming from any sort of vanity or agenda I have?

I don't think the Marantz is "bright". I think it is pretty neutral. There is a thread of mine called "An audition" which gives the details of what I thought. I'd post a link to it (as I used to be able to do) if this silly website would let me!

As for power, all I can say is that my setup is in a large loft style apartment and fills it with sound up to and beyond levels that I could bear without any evidence of clipping or other distortions. You shouldn't rely on written specifications, you need to listen.

You are correct. I misremembered.

It's a very fine sounding amp - heard it in comparison to a roksan kandy K2 - I (very slightly) prefered the marantz. (my error it was the marantz pear lite i heard). It didn't appear to lose out to the K2 in power.

It's a shame the 8005 is a little pricey now tho

Be careful whatyou say about the Kandy! You will have the Impaler on your back.

The Marantz PM-8005 is 70Wpc in 8 ohms with 200mV input sensitivity and the Roksan Kandy K2 is 125Wpc in 8 ohms with 470mV input sensitivity. I think tonky heard it right. They should sound equallly loud and powerfull on the same volume knob position before the Marantz enters clipping.
