My three-year old found the shiny metal dome tweeter of my b&w's too pretty to resist after all these months of admiring them. End result: my right speaker now has an indentation of her little pointer, about a fourth of the way inward. My heart sank but how do you discipline a three-year old NOT to touch such an attractive, shiny little thing?

Question: what can I do to make the dome look like a dome again??? all advice appreciated.

there have been a few threads with similar problems ...

there are ways of sorting this .... (hoover, using tape to pull it back to shape etc) .... google and you will find info

there may be no damage, but sadly, it may always bother you thinking that perhaps it is damaged, and the sound could be better ....

get a quote from B&W for a replacement tweeter (may be the best option)

my daughter did the same thing, unfortunatly she got carried away and did every tweeter and cone on my old B&W 603 s3 5.1 set up, i ended up claiming on my home insurance and changing to monitor audios. as stated in other posts you can make them half decent again by sticky tape or the hoover but unfortunatly you can't tell kids of that age not to touch dads pride and joy, so she will inevitably do it again, those tweeters are like child magnets, either try and put them out of reach or change your speakers to something like the monitor audios which have the tweeter covered, i told my daughter dads speakers have to go on e-bay now because she damaged them, i then said if dads new ones get damaged it would be her going on e-bay lol, seemed to do the trick

^ That's the cleverest piece of child psychology I've heard in a while! Have to try that man, thanks.. 😀

So did you still try and fix yours, or did they go on ebay straight-away? Cheers!

mine were well gone, every tweeter was damaged beyond repair and the cones had also been crunched and ripped off, i just stuck them straight on e-bay.

i even even tried to tape the covers so she could'nt get to the tweeters but i think i may of produced some kind of child ninja as that just fueled her passion for the magical silvery dome.

I had exactly the same problem a few months ago in my 685's tweeter. I tried everything: vacuum, tape... Nothing worked. The sound was compromised although some said it wouldn't. I ended up sending an email to B&W who email the representative here in Portugal that contacted me and pointed me a hifi shop where I could replace the tweeter. It cost me abou 40£ to replace it. But it was the only way I could take care of the problem. So now, grilles on ALWAYS!

Sorry about you tweeter man, I know how you feel!

I appreciate the empathy, jazzdevill. Obrigado.

I know grilles should probably stay on, but the cm1's magnetized grilles are just too tempting to remove every so often. I am so frustrated now, I can't bear to take the top off anymore. Haven't listened to them since last Saturday. The wife thinks I'm overdoing it but I truly am crestfallen...

Will try sticky tape or duct tape later. I really hate spending money on repairs as opposed to maintenance/upgrades. Let you know how I get along. Cheers.

I would also try to find out about the new tweeter - it's possible that the motion of pushing it has had an adverse affect further in.

I know it sounds daft, but the mesh-covered tweeter and solid centre caps of my RS6s were a surprisingly large factor in the decision to purchase them.

My grilles do stay on for all except the longest listening sessions, but my daughter is nearly 8 now and has an appreciation for "Dad's stuff". It's her friends and their siblings that worry me when they come to visit!!! It is amazing how little interest they take in the black slab (grilles on), but how much interest the silver and gold shiny bits get when the grills are off!!

Maybe speaker manufacturers should find a way to black anodize any shiny bits!!!

Thanks, fatboyslimfast. Your advice is really well-taken, but I abso-effin-lutely abhor the thought of spending for something I already paid for. I mean our cars have insurance for little dings and such, but sadly, not our audio equipment.

Of course, at the end of the day, ponying up for a new tweeter may be the more prudent course to take but 40 euros according to jazzdevill, plus labor(!)...OUCH.

Update: My dealer offered to help me fix the tweeter with the caveat that there will be, even if re-"domed", a barely noticeable line or lines. In the meantime, in view of my sour mood I purchased the Saturn I've been eye-ing for months as a pick-me-upper. Good excuse, eh?
