Hi all

With all the advise from this forum and bit of research I have narrowed down these 2 cd player to go with my creek evo 50a.

Arcam cds27 or marantz sa8005?
I am not too bothered about features, streaming etc.

I am only concerned about the sound quality and SQ alone.

Thanks.

Not heard the Arcam but I can speak highly of the Marantz.

Chris

How much improvement do you think it will make in terms of SQ from my current set up which is cd6004 with arcam irdac Cheers

I used to be very sceptical about differences between CD players but I also had the CD6004 and the SA8005 extracts much more detail from the music. Instruments that had been lost in the mix emerged as separate entities. i am still surprised playing old CDs when I hear things I have not heard before. SACD reproduction is also brilliant.

thanks for your reply Chris I was thinking exactly the same in regards to different cd player making much difference to the overall sound. Let's see if there's any arcam cds27 owner in the fomum.

If you Google "sa8005 review" you will find a review from www.wifiwifi.com where the two players are compared.

i've had all three. the cd6004 and irdac are comparable but put out a different type of house sound imo. the sa8005 is clearly a step up from both. i searched high and low online and it's hard to get a simple yes or no answer on if the sa8005 has a better sound than the cd6004 but it's clearly better on redbook cd playback which is what i use it for. i've heard more expensive cd players than the sa8005 which are slightly more detailed and smoother but end up being too laid back sounding. the sa8005 is lively and dynamic and has good weight to the sound.

i've had all three.  the cd6004 and irdac are comparable but put out a different type of house sound imo.  the sa8005 is clearly a step up from both.  i searched high and low online and it's hard to get a simple yes or no answer on if the sa8005 has a better sound than the cd6004 but it's clearly better on redbook cd playback which is what i use it for.  i've heard more expensive cd players than the sa8005 which are slightly more detailed and smoother but end up being too laid back sounding.  the sa8005 is lively and dynamic and has good weight to the sound.

So you are saying sa8005 won't sound any better but will sound different?
I thought cd6004 is like an entry level and sa8005 halfway between entry and hiend?

if you don't care about the streaming part, then why not also audition the matching Creek cd player?

And in any case, you should try to audition all of them with YOUR amp, since imo the partnering matters more then the cd player's qualities in isolation.
