After much thinkering over my first budget hifi-system my budget got some unexpected cash! Just wanna here what you boys and girls think about my system.

I want a good 2.0 system for music, with the ability too hook up my TV and chromecast audio. For that i needed two optical inputs, and did not find any good alternatives within my budget. Now, with the extra cash, i can afford the new Marantz 6006 (which got just that). So i can hook up both my tv and chromecast audio using toslink.

My question is, my source of music will be mostly MP3, Flacs and Spotify (via chromecast audio). Is this system "to good" for playing from these sources? Im no audiophile, never really had any good sound im my home, so i am not even sure my ear is "trained" enough to pick up these differences?

Not at all. A good system can make even MP3s sound better. It can be pretty hard to tell the difference between lossless and 320 mp3s, and even 256 mp3s. The main danger is that you may start wondering how much better it will sound with lossless files and start buying more music.

Hi im totally newbie ;) just registered i also am in a difficult situation i have a budget of £1200 but now with the new Marantz PM6006 and the CD6006 im set back again for my budget... i need help as im struggling to set up a good system at present i was thinking of the Marantz PM6005 Amplifier and the CD6005 CD Player and the Speakers would be Dali Zensor 3 and the Marantz network player NA6005. would cost me £1000-£1200 for this set up.

But the 2 new Marantz units are around £150 more than the now older units so im torn as that would add another £300 i could pay it at a push but im not sure the benifits of the newer models would justify the price at present.

The other question is with the speakers would the Q Acoustics 3020 sound the same as the Concept 20's? or should i just stick with the Zensors 3 ' i had thought on the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 but i hear the Dalis are slightly better sounding? any help would really be apreciated as im starting from scratch and pretty lost at the moment.

thanks!

hi the marantz pm6005 ,cd6005 are both very good still and I would of thought that the newer pm6006 & cd 6006 would not be much of a difference with the old models you can look on eBay for the older models there are lots on there secondhand mint condition save your self money this way or and this would be a better option for you the marantz pm8005 & sacd 8005 player a lot better quality and better sounding then the pm6005 and more powerful amp too you could pick up both on eBay under your budget secondhand or a new marantz pm8005 for £599 new and the sacd 8005 for £599 . Ideally you need to get the best amp you can afford as well as speakers are important too in a good setup

No system will not be too good. More depends on the mastering rather than the format. Even in long term tests hardly anyone could tell the difference between mp3 and cd or cd and 24 bit.

The Marantz 6006 is no doubt a good budget system but I agree with BS that the 8005 is good value and should be considered now. Or you can get the 6005 for much less than the 6006, doubt there is any difference.

As the others, I don't think the PM6006 will be a MASSIVE improvement over the PM6005, but do audition. Also, if the PM6006 will have a DAC inside it, I don't see the point (except for aesthetics) in using the Marantz CD player, as the DAC will be the same. You can just use a nice budget Sony Blu-ray with digital out into the PM6006 (or 6005) digital in, and save yourself some cash in the process.

For what it's worth, I would use a 1200 pound budget to find a nice second hand Naim Unitiqute 2 and some budget speakers, and upgrade speakers at a later stage. Either that, or an Audiolab M-Dac + a pair of active speakers - Adam A5X (or A7X, budget and space allowing), or Yamaha HS7.

Don't dismiss the Wharfedale Diamond 220. The WHF review of them is spot on. I'm very familiar with most of the current affordable speakers, including Zensor 3 and the Q Acoustics, and the Wharfedales are very special for their integration between the drive units, controlled and rhythmic bass, and lack of cabinet colouration. They are also much better finished than previous Wharfedale models and have a look and feel of quality.

the 8005 series i was looking around for prices but still are expensive and i dont see many outlets selling the SACD i could get the PM7005? and the CD6005 like you say better a larger amp and skip the network player? the speakers i too cannot decide Monitor audio vs Dali but some one mentioned Wharfedale 2020 another pair i have never concidered so these i will need to look into the Q Acoustics again should be decent.

with a collection of nearly 4,000 cds i wonder if i should shell out on the SACD player been toying around for a couple of month checking forums like this reviews etc still struggling with many options!

i could go for the PM7005 and the UD7007 this combo better amp and a player that does SACD and CD?

then agian this takes me to £1000 with them costing around £499 each i still have to get speakers and the network player and would take me well over budget but i could save up for a couple of more month

but at present i had in mind the PM6005 CD6005 the NA6005 and some Zensor 3 (or Monitor Audio B2's) but now i need to check out the wharfedale 2020's !! but either way would keep me in budget im at around then £1100 shopping around i do however listen to heavy and fast powerfull electronic music so the speakers really need to keep pace with the busy sounding electronic based stuff without getting messy.

Here in Denmark the difference is almost what's equal to 350£ 521£ and 868£ so you might want to look if someone is selling the last they have in stock of the PM6005 and CD6005

Or mabye buy the Marantz Melody Media M-CR611 for 334£ at richersound

http://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers/hi-fi-system-deals/pah011628

http://www.superfi.co.uk/p-16455-marantz-na6005-networked-audio-player.aspx

That doesn't seen to bald just a bit more then 1000£

And the 6005 is 3500 swedish (288 pounds).

wow! vast difference in price at the moment i can get the PM6005 and CD6006 at around £230-£250 the PM8005 is around £500-£600 if i also get the NA6005 network player and a pair of £300 speakers for around £1000-£1200 the network player also gives me an additional USB port like on the cd player there isnt one on the amp.

the question now is now the Dali Zensor 3 or the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 the Q acoustics seem a little small.

the PM7005 seems to be a good alternitive and only £50-£70 more than the new PM6006! if i get that with the CD6005 (rather than the PM6006) (saving another £150) i can get some Dali Zensor 3 Speakers and leaves me a bit of cash left for the Marantz nework player. NA6005?

i am definetly going for the Dali Zensor 3 i just think they have more positive reviews than the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 and the Q Acoustics 3020 and Concepts and what i have heard sound just has a little edge

Now with the Marantz my only decision now is the PM6006 and the CD6006 are £399 each so im thinking of getting the CD6005 they are around £250 now....BUT rather than the PM6005 get the PM7005 its only £50 more than the newer PM6006? whats your thoughts? or shall i just match it with the PM6005 and save £200!

thanks peole for all the imput its apreciated!!

I don't know the 7005. The 6005/6005 combo is under £500, or you can get the 6005cd for £240. I agree I would not buy the 6006, it's too much money. Its best to hear them before deciding. The 7005 is only £429 now.

i had a hard choice becasue of the newer models being released PM6006 and the CD6006 (with the NA6005) and my budget vs the SA8005 and the P8005 (like you recommended)

i originally planned for the MP6005,NA6005 and the CD6005 with the Dali 3.

However My partner helped me out and put half towards my budget!

enabled me this... i ordered the PM8005 the SA8005 and the NA8005 and the Dali 3 Zensor speakers! (and some white grills ;) i hope i made the right choice the Dali Opticon were out of stock also they were expensive and floor standers would have been far too big for my room space etc.

i only noticed the NA6005 has FM and bluetooth and WI-Fi that the NA8005 doesnt' that put me off a little especially with the NA8005 being more expensive so i was a bit in doubt if i made the right decision to buy it and justify the purchase'

especially when my router is in another room so i woulnt be able to use it for much internet radio etc ;( and only for the USB port. at least it will look nice in the set up!

I am fairly new here, but have been researching similar systems to what you mention. I am open to correction, but with the PM6005 (I dont think the pm6006 will be worth the extra 150) and its built in DAC, it was said previously that you may not need the cd player to be quite as good as the cd6005/cd6006. You could go with your original plan of the NA6005/PM6005 and something like the SOny bdp -s5005, which while playing cds will use the amps DAC anyway, giving you a win win
