I am currently trying to set up my new hi-fi setup, i want to use my laptop as the source, and have pretty much decided on the monitor audio bx2 speakers, although i need some advice on what component to use.

As far as I can see to use the pm6004 I need a DAC, whereas the cr603 is compatible. If so, is there going to be a huge diference between what these products can do, which is better etc. I hope the cr603 is good, because I can get a good deal on that here http://www.hifix.co.uk/hi-fi-package-deals/marantz/mcr603-black-inc-bronze-bx2.html

Also, because this is my first hi-fi setup, all my music is itunes downloaded is at 256kbps, i know cds run higher than this, is this going to make much difference. I dont want to spend a load on speakers and components and then not get there full potential because of poor quality music.

Hi RdotJ

Can't comment on the 6004 but the 603 is a very capable little all-in-one. Really depends where your priorities lay? If you want a dedicated separates the the 6004 is the way to go, but for a 'plug 'n' play the 603 would be my choice out of the two.

However, there is the Onkyo TX-8050, although not heard, comes with shining recommendations on here.

Going back to the 603, Andrew Everard reviewed this amp and certainly worth a read: http://www.gramophone.co.uk/editorial/marantz-m-cr603-a-compact-solution-packed-with-performance
