Does anyone have any viiews on this amp. I'm pretty decided on purchasing the Pearl -Lita SACD player, but not sure whether or not to plump for the amp as well. Currently running an original Caspian (12 years old).

If you can afford go for its bigger brother Marantz SA-11S2 but it costs 3 times more. 11S2 has XLR in addition to RCA sockets.

Excellent amp, currently at very good prices. I chose the Naim over it at prices as they were, but at £699, it's a steal.

Which Naim amp did you choose over the Marantz and why?

The Nait 5i. At the prices when I was looking, I thought the Naim was a little punchier while the Marantz was a touch sweeter. This was with the Magnepans, by the way. Could be very different with other speakers, but, in the end, I preferred the Naim take on the sound.

The Naim also has a way of separating the instruments better with classical music which was an important criteria.

Interesting. What source and speakers do you use with the Naim. I listen to classical almost exclusively, so take your point about speration of instruments. However, I want a setup that reprepresents string sound accurately. I currently find violins especially to come-acoss as far too astringent, which is a problem as I like to listen to string quartets and violin sonatas.

I have the Magnepan MG 12s. Source is a mac/AppleTV2/Musical Fidelity V-DAC with V-PSU. I also have a Sony Blu ray player connected to the DAC, but that doesn't get used much.

Not too flash, but can sound stunning with something like Jansen's playing of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto . Note the speakers don't do super deep bass and aren't great for Heavy Metal.
