Having just sold my B&W Zeppelin, I'm looking for something to replace it.

I was thinking of the Denon DM-38 + Q Acoustic 2010 speakers, but today

I had a listen to the Marantz MCR603 and I'm pretty keen on it. What

would be decent speakers to partner with it and does anyone have any

views on the 603? In the shop I had the demo, they had it hooked

up to B&W 686, but the reviews for these aren't too promising. All

help and advice appreciated. Speakers will be placed up against a

wall.

Also considering the VitaAudio R4 if anyone has any views on this.

Just really want something to replace the Zeppelin, which is a good

system, but it seemed a bit lightweight to me and a bit restricted.

Thanks

Maybe not much use, but I saw some B&W CM1s on the end of a MCR503 (mainly because I think Marantz distribute B&W where I am), and assuming the CM1s really want more power I expected it to sound terrible, but I was really impressed by the sound, so hopefully the 603 could do an even better job of driving a pair of CM1s (they also made a quite attractive compact set up visually as well).

It might be beyond what you were planning to spend, and higher end kit would probably get more out of them, but from my experience, I'd definitely audition the combination.

Edit: sorry, I just reread and realized they would be used up against a wall which might make the quite bassy rear ported CM1s boomy. They come with port plugs, but still...

Noted elsewhere on the forums that the M-CR603 is more than up to the task of driving some very accomplished loudspeakers.

I just stumbled upon the Marantz MCR603 and looks great!

How does this compare to Myryad Mi and Arcam Solo Mini?

Anyone had direct comparision?

I wonders about New Marantz MCR603 vs ex dem / ebay Myryad Mi.

Any close to wall speaker recommendations to partner one of these?

Looking for musical sounding system with good timing / fun to listen to like my old Naim Nait 3 amp sounded! 🙂

Any thought?

Cheers

A bit 'out there' maybe, but how about a good used Nait 3 with the Marantz M-CR603 as a source? (Connect M-CR603 using it's 'Aux Out' connection to the Nait 3).

Best of both worlds.

Maybe.

Hi Chebby,

Thanks for comment.

Interesting thought! Not sure how they would look stacked on a sideboard but maybe able to tuck amp away somewhere or in place of AV amp.

Suppose could also consider using my AV amp (Arcam AVR 280) as it might be better than the one in the Marantz unit itself? Or is this even more bizarre idea???

Would Dynaudio 2/6 work well do you think? They would need to be close to wall however (10cm). Always fancied getting some Dyns as supposed to be good for Rock/Heavy Metal.

DIO - RIP.
