I've just unplugged my stereo amp from my Tacima and plugged it straight into the wall. Wow, a big difference, namely deeper bass and 5 notches on my 840 volume, louder.
d_a_n1979:So are you saying that the Tacima out of the way and amp plugged directly in to the mains is a better job?
If so it's not a surprise IMO!
I was thinking about it and I have a Clearer Audio Copper mains cable and it's not really doing anything by going into the Tacima is it? Anyway, it's better.
The Tacima has ended up going to the TV and surround sound system and has definitly made improvements there where it didnt do a lot on the hifi which had the Clearer Audio mains cables!
Seems to be the general concensus at the mo. The only downside is the removal equipment protection from splikes etc. Not that long ago I bought a Sercal plugin unit and have to say that it is much better than the balanced transformer I had in there before. The advantages of a plugin unit are that there is no impedance of current to any kit on the extension, it sounds like there isnt a unit there (I have tried without) but has the benefit of protection/ spike filtering etc. Something to think about.
There is definately a reduction in dynamics when plugging power hungry devices like amplifiers into tacima's.
This is due to the increased impedance on the circuit caused by the Tacima. Apparently this impedance increases as you move down the tacima away from the filter so options are:-
1. Place amp in first socket on tacima nearest the filters.
2. Go to maplins and get something like this and plug your amp into it seperate from the tacima http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=217856&C=SO&U=strat15
3. Get an extension block plug all equipment into that and buy a tacima single socket / surge protector (SC5723) and place in the socket next to where the extension is.
I use the QED qonduit, they can be had for significanly less than the usual retail at the moment. An improvement over the tacima without the loss in dynamics IMO

This looks like a far better suggestion then the Tacima for all your equipment to me. I believe the amount of filtering going on should be minimal on a power amp, therefore dedicated filters for source, pre amp, amp is key.
