MacBook Pro Vs Music Server…?

What is better, as MacBook Pro serving music from iTunes, or a dedicated music server?

Does iTunes simply serve the music in its basic form, or does the software (iTunes) have any bearing on the outcome.

iTunes is one way you can do it. I stream from my NAS to an Apple TV but can do it with my MBP. I however, use XBMC as opposed to iTunes.

You can output digitally to a DAC via optical or USB.
