OK, few questions:

1) What didn't satisfy you about the sound? What was it lacking/what did you feel it needed?

2) What receiver did you a) demo with and b) plan to use your speaker package with?

3) What size room - and budget - do you have?

Answer those and we can help with some ideas for further demos.

I have not heard the Fazons but between the MT-30 and the M-7 systems I found the M-7 to be vastly superior.

I'll qualify that. I only listened to movies, no music. The MT30 was fine but sounded a little restrained. When using the first 10 minutes of Bolt as a demo the M-7 system seemed to do everything right. From the loud explosions to the relatively subtle sound of the paper cup falling over, to the vocals, it made me smile (and giggle like a child).

If it wasn't for trying three LCR750s on the front and a step up in subwoofer I would have bought the M-7 and been seriously chuffed.

Used SC-LX82 + BDP-LX52 combination for both the M&K and B&W auditions.

You are spending a good deal of money. If you can, listen to some M&K.

The M-7 system how does the sub work? Is it turn your amp on and the sub automatically comes on. Or do you have to turn a swich on the back of the sub of this package? Ie is it like the PV1 sub?

Thanks

No problems - I find using Google to look things up just so tiresome, too...

I had the B&W MT30 speaker package and know a lot about them I had with a pioneer vsx-lx70 amp. I have also heard them with the Yamaha RXV-1900 amplifer on several ocassions.

The B&W MT30 speaker package is a mini theatre speaker package so that's what you are getting. At producing the mini theatre sound there is no better at this price range they are excellent. Very clear - excellent sounding.

Musically they are not great to be honest. The sound can sound very confined whereas a bigger speaker package you will get a lot more musical sound.

But I really love them and if I wanted a smaller but very good sound in the future I would definetely buy them again.

Thanks lot guys for ure advise. Been to demo the Dali fazon and Monitor Audio Radius HD, found that the fazon is not worth the price tag at all(its only my opinion) the center was very clear but missing the kind of punches from the sound effects, not very good sub(tried it to the maximum vol of the sub)....so i'll leave it aside. Then the radius HD i found it quite impressive with the price compare to the MT-30 and fazon. Everything seems to be very balace and just enough power from sub as well. I will give a try on my last option the M&K M-7 next week if nothing surprise me again, i will definately go for the radius HD but upgrade the front to a floor standing and it just cost £1575 and it should give enough power for my room size. But thanks anyway.Cheers.

Pioneer LX81, Pioneer LX91 blu ray player, Dali fazon, Monitor audio Radius HD, Pioneer KURo 50'.

I am sort of in the same boat, considering the Radius-HD and MT-25. It seemed to me however that the B&W produce a smoother sound whereas the MA are a little more detailed, but perhaps a little too detailed at times. Also voices seems a little less natural on the MA to me. Still I am not sure which one I prefer.

Was that just my impression or does anyone share a similar opinion?

I understand the headache it drove me round the twist when i wanted to upgrade my M&K K7 package. Three dealers three different opinions. Question asked what is "THE BEST" small speaker package (style speakers) to go with a pioneer SC LX71 amp that would be an upgrade on my M&K K7/K15/K10 package and pioneer AX5i amp. I was informed by one dealer i had moved past the B&W M's / Kef packages with what i had already so they were out straight away. I had two in mind M&K M7 and MA radius HD. The three choices i had from three dealers were Focal sib&co , MA radius HD and M&K M7 this was the top choices from three different dealers. The first dealer didn't stock the MA's or M&K's the second dealer Didn't stock Focal or M&K's and third dealer didn't stock focal but did MA's and M&K's. To cut a long story short i went with M&K M7/M4T/KX12. It was always going to be harder for the others as i have been more than happy with my M&K K7's for the last 5/6 years. By going with the M&K KX12 sub instead of the SB12 that reduced the price by over £400 and was told by my dealer that apart from cosmetics they are virtually the same sub. I would say the Fazons weren't around when i was looking and they look great so they would have been on my list but i'm glad you say you weren't overly impressed by them. I love my M&K's they give me a big cheesy grin when i listen to them and now i want some M&K 950's (or do i sunfire cinema ribbons CRM's !!! oh no not again). Let us know what you get in the end would be interested to know.

v1c - I think your decision to go with the M7 package was a wise one. I've found in the past that many who 'understand' M&K, find it hard to move away from them because of their strengths. And some of those who had moved away had reverted back. I've still not found any 'style' packages or hi-fi AV packages that can convey the subtle nuances that properly driven and matched M&K's can - tiny little things like the funny little noises people make inside their mouths when talking quietly as an example, as well as the usual sound effects like bullet casings bouncing on a concrete floor etc. This is all possible partly because they're a sealed design, and have a more even frequency response (no overly exaggerated mid/bass notes colouring higher frequencies), and also because they're a 'satellite' design, not having to deal with low frequencies like most speakers - so by nature their more limited bandwidth is less coloured by resonating cabinets, low standing waves, ports changing the natural frequency response etc.

Also, their panning effects are far superior to many hi-fi speaker packages because all M&K packages use exactly the same speaker for left/centre/right. The fact that the centre is THE most important speaker tends to rule most packages out!

How well they perform depends on the subwoofer. The better the sub, the sweeter, and bigger these small satellites sound. Although I'd say the M series sounds better with an SB1250, I've recommended many people to go with the extremely capable KX12, partly because it brings the cost of the package down significantly (usually by about £500/600), and also because it is capable of more than most people will ever need from a sub.

scowl - yes, the M7 package is great, but the 750's really are something else! In fact, I'd say the 750's are the best VFM M&K's, working great with LX82's and DSPZ7's. Unless you're restricted for room, I'd bypass the 950 upgrade and aim for 150's.....

garychf - a well set up demo of the M&K's is strongly recommended. I've tried to find a 'nomal' speaker package to match up to the M&K's abilities, but to no avail.

Almost anything. The M Series is a little different to M&K's previous packages in that they're a little more music friendly, sounding a little fuller than the previous K Series. For some this is a more accessible package, for others, like Scowl, they'd much prefer something like the 750's, which are, for me, more what M&K are about.

I've found the M Series to be pretty amplifier friendly in terms of matching - we've used them on Pioneer, Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, Marantz, Arcam etc. It's best to stay away from entry level amplifiers as they're a 4ohm load - an amp that can handle 4 ohms at higher volumes is needed to get the best from them. I've found the Yamaha receivers work best with M&K, and also Pioneer, due to their in depth MCACC.

Finally i bought my dream surround speakers that i had seach for ages. I have choosen the Monitor audio Radius HD packages with r270 floor standing front and bigger center and its just cost me £1150 from our favorite's hifi store frank harvey(HIFIX). The cheapest i can find, and i tried with Batman the dark knight, it really blow me away. And i did try on the M&K m7 and found that it quite good as well can be consider the BEST satalite package i ever heard (very strong bass on sound effects and details) but comparing with MA HD its just slightly better and for the huge differents on price, i had make up my mind i'll will stick to the MA HD. Its just my own opinion.

My personal conclusion,

1. M&K M7 5/5 performance .........5/3.5 value[£2200](a bit too pricey compare to the MA HD)

2. Monitor audio Radius HD 4.5/5 performance ........5/5[1150] value Best satalite packges for this price range

demo with pioneer Kuro, pioneer sc-lx82 and etc.

Thanks guys.
