LX03 speakers with for an VSX-LX55?

A couple of years ago I bought a Pioneer LX03 home cinema system, which I'm pretty happy with (it was great for the price I paid). However, I'm shortly going to upgrade my TV and while looking around the Pioneer VSX-LX55 AV receiver has caught my eye (especially the fact that it has airplay, and has 3D functionality). My question is this: will I have to buy new speakers for the LX55, or can I use my existing ones? I think I can just cut the connecting clips off the LX03 speakers and connect them to the new system (using the same wires), but wanted to check before spending £800 on an AV receiver. More importantly, will the sound quality be any good/any better than with the LX03 receiver/DVD? I do like the small speaker size, and would plan to upgrade them when I have the cash (to something like the Bose Acoustimass 10).

Any help would be much appreciated - I don't want to take the wire-cutters to my LX03 without being fairly sure.

What are you going to use for a sub? The one you've got now is a passive sub, so you won't be able to (easily) use it with the LX55 amp as that'll be expecting an active sub. Also the speakers, which are a strange mix of 4Ohm and 8Ohm (the fronts are 4 ohm, the centres and rears are 8Ohm, this may be an issue for the amp), have a lower frequency range of only 200Hz, which means any sub you do use will need to be working much higher up than it should be, in fact I'd be mildly surprised if the amp allows you to set a sub crossover as high as that.

I'd say it's pretty much a non-starter, sorry. Don't cut the connectors off, you'd be better off selling the whole kit, or using it in a different room.

to be fair Dan rather than opt for a £800 receiver and probably another £1200+ on speakers, you will get a fairly good setup for you're 800 bucks!!! how about
