Guh! Yeah, hands up, I'm an idiot, I've only ever dealt with integrated AV amps, which pretty much always have digital inputs (for DVD etc), and I made an assumption that whatever amp Nervous Pete got would include a pre-amp stage, just for flexibilty of connections (ie I'd have been surprised if he went straight from the PC to a power amp).

Anyway the point is the same, if he's using an external DAC the pre/power amp doesn't care if the signal was originally digital or not.
