Low-profile surround speaker cable recommendation + mixing 4-ohm output with 8-ohm speakers

Hi,

I have currently a Sony DAV-S550 home cinema system and I am looking to at least upgrade the speaker cable as he cable supplied with the unit seems rather low-quality. Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably-priced cable? Due to the connectors, the cable needs to be of smallish diameter and fairly flexible.

I am about to acquire some Mission 733 floorstanders. If possible I would like to use these as the FL and FR speakers. The Sony satellite speakers are rated at 4-ohm but the Missions are 8-ohm. I understand from reading around that it shouldn't be a problem but I'd be interested in any comments and personal experience. My main worry is over-heating the DAV-S550 which tends to run fairly warm at the best of times.

TIA,
H.

Personally I wouldn't bother upgrading the speaker cable, particularly as it sounds like you will have to get around the hassle of fitting those connectors, which I've only ever seen for sale on U.S. ebay. If you do feel the need to change the cable (I would be looking at upgrading the equipment first!), try the 1.5mm VDC blue or QED Micro. Belkin do some reasonable quality 16awg cable too or have you considered using mains cable? It works, trust me.

I doubt the Sony would be up to the job of driving those floorstanders, time for an upgrade me thinks!

Thanks for the advice. I take your point about the Sony being too weedy to drive the floorstanders. The connectors on the Sony cables are actually very easy to dismantle and fit new cables.
