Have 20th century fox stopped allowing their new release blu-rays to be available to rent? I have noticed on Loveflm that titles such as The A Team and Knight and Day have never moved off the unavailable for rental slot. An internet search reveals rumours, and I've emailed Lovefim twice and only received crappy generic answers about waiting times for favourite films.

Finally got an answer from them

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Helvetica} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 14.0px Helvetica; min-height: 17.0px}

Thank you for your email. We do apologise for any confusion.

There are different licences required to sell or rent new releases and

all licences need to be agreed with the studio. In this case, the studio

has decided that they no longer wish to supply Blu ray versions of their

titles for rental purposes. We are still able to offer DVD versions for

rental however the licence for all online DVD rental begins 28 days

after the retail release date. This arrangement allows us to support the

film industry in continuing to create great quality films for the

foreseeable future, whilst at the same time being able to provide the

best possible product for our customers.

Do not understand why they still offer them up for rental

If they're only supplying DVD for rental, I'll be cancelling my subscription then - may as well put that £20 into a SkyHD film package and have the choice of 12 film channels.

It seems to be 20th century Fox only - Blockbusters have been up front with their customers but Lovefilm have tried their best to keep

it hidden from their customers - took me 5 emails and a quote from the Blockbuster site do get a response

I also emailed Lovefilm about blu-rays unavailable for rental and got a very similar reply to the one quoted above.

There seems to be a growing number of such titles and not just from one or two studios (eg Island of Lost Souls on Eureka).

Very disappointing!

This is very dissapionting indeed as i regularly rent from them and see that blu rays are unavailable for rent quite often. Is this something that more studios are going to be doing and if so is it just to force people into buying the blu ray?

Maybe an attempt to get people back into their local multiplexes ? Perhaps Lovefilm aren't worried the secondhand bluray market could replace some of their rental business, on the assumption Amazon marketplace would be the trading venue for much of this ? The need for me to update my username may not be so urgent after all and perhaps I will reconsider the Audiolab 8200AP that I had discounted because of its limited decoding abilities !
