I'd hold off buying anything. You have effectively stolen something from her. No matter what she did, you GAVE the ring to her, and it belonged to her. You have obtained this by deceit, and sold it. You could go to jail if she wants to be nasty.
Frog, she did actually threaten Legal action (which only
makes the heist that much sweeter) however in the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region, which is the special legal jurisdiction we both live under, the ring
would remain my legal possession as purchaser and holder of the receipts until
I a.) Sold her the ring or b.) Legally assigned ownership to her.
Being caught up in the whole romance of the moment when I
gave her the ring I forgot to draw up legal papers or sell her the ring and
thus am entitled to the return of my property. She could have had a case had I
taken possession of the ring from her flat (which is technically burglary even
with my own goods) but unfortunately for
her she voluntarily gave the ring to an intermediary (albeit by deception which
again isn't illegal as there was no transaction).
Also, as I am also the designer of the ring, I own both the Intellectual
Property and arguably the prototype design (I only got round to making the one)
of the ring.
I could argue the moral obligations and commitments that an engagement
ring signifies but I'd rather just stand behind the excellent Chinese legal
system.
