I Have Recently started ripping my cds to Apple Lossless

But because the files are now in Mp4a will not play from my Hard drive through my WD HD Media Player

Is there anyway of making these files Mp3 without losing the quality or Another way of importing my music at a lostless quality without using the Apple way which will provide me with the Mp3 format needed ?

Many Thanks

Or just use iTunes. Change the rip settings on iTunes to mp3, and you'll then get an option in the iTunes library window when you right clicke - "make mp3 version". You'll then have two copies, but you can manage that with smart playlists or a separate library for the lower-res files.

MP3 is lossy codec and thus by definition cannot fully preserve the quality of the original source. So, unfortunately you cannot convert your ALAC (Apple Lossless) files to it losslessly. What you can do is use a program to convert your M4As to WAVs which is the only lossless format supproted by BOTH iTunes and the WD HD and set iTunes to rip to WAV by default (although I would suggest using EAC to rip your CDs but that's a whole other can of worms). Cheers...
