Hello,

I've just moved into my new abode and am looking for some ideas on a good TV and sound system to go with it.

My living room is very compact and will cater to a 55 inch so that's where I'm targeting my efforts. My budget is high so around £4-5k in total - obviously looking for the best bang for my buck!

Initial thoughts have been towards the LG 55EG960V and Philips Fidelio B5 but not sure if there was other alternatives I should be looking at?

As you can tell I am looking around and options such as the Dali Kubik One would also be in with a shout.

Any suggestions would be welcomed!

It's a shame the flat screen is £500 more although I've warmed to the curve now that I've seen it in person.

What does a HDMI on the soundbar mean and what benefits would it have? I'll have a look at the Philips and Yamaha again and come to a decision.

Also with soundbars, does it matter really where they're placed. Having looked at the Bose, it is quite thick and will not fit appropriately in front of the TV on the same level as it will block the bottom of the TV. I was thinking of buying a stand with multiple shelves so may need to put the soundbar on the bottom shelf in front of me at foot level (if you understand what I mean). Would this impact quality of sound noting that a lot of the good soundbars have spacial room recognitions?

The advantage of HDMI is that you can get HD sound, as opposed to optical cable. Why don't you look at a soundbase instead? Your TV can sit on it. That Sony HT-XT3 for example, is a soundbase. Of course, you need to finalise the TV first, to confirm the soundbase is wide enough to accommodate the stand.

Update:

So I went for the Soundtouch 130 and to my surprise it has HDMI connects (4 of them) contrary to the above.

Also went for the curved 55 inch OLED!

My next challenge is to find a TV stand that works with this setup. Having looked in the store at the rise of the screen, putting the soundbar in front of it would maybe block the bottom of the screen?

Another issue is finding a stand that would allow for surround sound. This is because if I was to put it on a shelf under the TV, I'd need to ensure there was space around the shelf at the direct side of the soundbar to help resonate the sound out to the side so that surround sound can be heard. Typical TV stands close off the sides.

Any links to TV stands that could work for this setup and it also needs to be light oak / wood as that's the theme for our living room.

Thanks in advance.

Is there any real differences apart from lack of curve!! Between the EG960V and the EF950V. I've seen 5 stars across the board for the curve with very little said about its counterpart flat version

A soundbase instead of a sound bar would have solved your issue of placement, like Canton DM90.3:

You can custom make your AV cabinet. Stump furniture are a good shout.
