Hello kind people of the internet, I just signed up to see if anyone could help me connect my PC to my Hi-Fi. My goal is to be able to browse my music collection on my PC and then select and play songs through my Hi-Fi speakers.

I have been googling for hours, but am still unsure if it is possible to connect or what cables and/or software I should buy to achieve playback through my speakers.

My PC is a Dell Inspiron 560 and my Hi-Fi is the Hitachi AX-M140, you can view my available connections in the online manual around page 6 to 8:

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Thank you so much! I did not even consider the scart connection as viable, as you can tell I am not the most tech savvy :D

So these 2 items would do the job?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scart-Adaptor-Phono-Sockets-Audio/dp/B000L1LY58

http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-Phono-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B000Q6LSVS

If your pC has sound outputs on the back panel you can just use the green (stereo) output with a patch cable, 3.5 mm stereo headphone plug on the PC end, twin RCA plugs on the amp end, and plug it into the "Aux" inputs on your amp. If it has 5.1 output, you can follow the same idea for all five channels.

If your PC doesn't have RCA plug (i.e. standard hifi) audio outs pre-installed on the motherboard / back panel and / or a ditial co-axial or optical output either, then you can purchase inexpensive ones from Amazon or elsewhere. I just fitted a Siig IC710211 PCI-Express card to one of my media PCs that didn't have a fibre-optic output on the motherboard. The card cost me $52 US plus shipping. It comes with dual brackets for full and low profile cases and a patch cable for 7.1 outputs (using cables with 3.5 mm stereo headphone plugs on the PC end, RCA plugs on the amp end). I use the fibre optic output to patch into my Onkyo AV surround sound receiver.

It sure will. No reason why you shouldn't use the SCART. It's just a normal analog audio signal without any added conversion stage.

The TV SCART Output can be used the same way with an adapter as audio output source from the Hitachi.

Unfortunatley that connection is only for copy/paste/delete via my PC for managing my Hi-Fi hard drive contents, it does not allow track selection and playback on the Hi-Fi. It would of been great if it did!
