I am looking for a dealer in the UK where I can purchase TARA Labs interconnects? There doesn’t seem to be any located here. I am open to buy online, but prefer to actually hear cables before buying them. I travel frequently around Europe on business and looking for a recommendation on a reputable dealer. Any insight would be welcome.

Hi there.

Just google the brand and click shopping.

There don't seem to be any dealers. Have you heard these cables on a system? I'm guessing you have but if not may I suggest The Chord Company instead. All their products come with a full moneyback guarantee. Tell them your budget and what your system is and they will recommend what interconnects will suit your system. They won't just tell you the most expensive ones either.

Be careful not to start another cable argument on hear. Just letting you know.

Good luck finding what you want.

Had a quick look but could not see any. SOme on ebay but all imports from abroad. Even if there was a dealer think you will pay a good mark up, so if you know what you want why not order them?

This is not the guy who started in Australia twisting mains cables round on a drill and then flogging them as high quality speaker cable?

Glacialpath, no one will argue with the OP when he asks for cable dealers.

When someone asks for cable recommendations, everyone is open to suggest what they think will do the job. Often OP will say his budget is something like 200 GBP and will get recommendations for 20-50 GBP cables because they believe those cables are good enough. It's not a provocation.

When someone opens a general discussion about cables, trust me, he knows what he is getting into. Then all bets are off.

Mathew Bond.

And I was the idiot with the drill.......*biggrin*

We were sitting in a pub in Bondi Junction when he told me he was off to the US to start a cable company.

What are you going to call it? I asked. "Tara Labs Space and Time Cable", he answered.

Wow, Why, I said. Because I can!.....*dirol*

This was the mid-late 80s and it was Australia.

Mathew had a shop in Bondi Junction and needed someone to help out while he was involved in other 'projects'. At that time the 'best' cable was perceived by the industry to be a Monster Cable product selling at A$9.99 per meter.

The locally produced regular 19amp twin and earth cost little more than that for a 50m drum. We stripped the cable saving the bare earth for scrap and used the red and black cores as speaker cable. There was science involved, we calculated that the optimum impedance could be obtained by modifying the inductance with a half twist every 20 cm or so, rather along the lines of Chord Co rumour.

However this looked pretty untidy so I sugested the Black and Decker approach to give a tighter spiral and a much better look. Mathew had a story that the cable he used came from Australian mined copper that was, after refining, unusually pure and this is why it sounded so good. I have no idea if the story was true or not.

Anyway, we had no problem demonstrating the superiority of this cable over the Monster, pretty much everyone heard the difference and most were happy to pay the A$19.99 per meter that we charged.

I strongly recommend City Electrical Factors or indeed any other wholesaler of equipment for electricians!

Alternatively obtain some highly trained birds to peck small holes in the insulation at 2" intervals. This, I am told, enhances the sound enormously!

Maybe, maybe not ...

Fairly old news, but interesting never the less.

Mathew was never short of a good marketing angle but p!ssing off the US Customs is never a good move.

Some years ago they managed to confuse 'part numbers' with 'serial numbers' on some speaker components we were shipping. Spent the afternoon in the cells as a consequence until they realised their error and let me out.

No apologie or anything, but then, I am not an American.
