Hi. Are we going to see big price drops shortly, due to credit crunch etc...? Really want a 40w4500 but slightly too expensive for me. I want to buy before xmas (its a prezzy). Hoping it will drop £750 to £800 ....any chance?

Well from a quick search on Froogle you can find it for £870 at Richer Sounds (in-store) but I wouldn't expect it to come down much given that it's only just been released in the past month. Are you including extended warranty in your budget? If you can stretch to it before the end of November you might be best to find a retailer doing the free 3 year Sony warranty (Play, Amazon, etc). Here's a link to the offer on the play site:-

Not sure if you'd get that same deal from a store or if Sony are limiting it to online retailers.

Just noticed that Amazon seem to have the free Sony warranty up until Christmas eve so might be best looking there. Sony 40W4500 is on sale there for £906.

Note, it is a DOMESTIC & GENERAL warranty which is being subsidised by Sony. Sony themselves do not do extended warranties. Not that this de-values it, but just pointing it out for the sake of clarity.

It is absolutely VITAL that you complete the warranty registration with all of your details and the serial number of the TV, and return it with a copy of your invoice/receipt to D&G at the address on the form. You will then receive a warranty certificate from D&G. Without doing this your warranty will not be registered with D&G and so will not be valid. The retailer has done their bit by giving you the form.

Wait a month before you do that and then decide. If you can get the 4500. 100 hz makes a big difference (it does on my Panny anyway) along with the other bits and bobs. The credit crunch is still biting the market.

Iv'e just purchased the Sony 40W4500 from the Sony store in Milton Keynes with the free Blue-Ray player and free 5 Year warranty for the same £1099. I also managed to get a discount on a very good stand and a couple of HDMI leads so it will be worth shopping around, the only down side is that I have to wait ten days for delivery. ( 5 days to go )

Another place to check is Cheapelectricals on the net, this was originally where I was going to buy but went into the Sony store to check it out before I brought and there deal was very similar, I wouldnt have got the deal on the other items on the net though.

Good luck with your search.

I would shop around like Sims said - as i got the same deal - but did not ask for extras :)

Sometimes the net does not give the best deal around...

Richersounds seem to be sellign it £959 with 5 years W. or £870 with std 12 months. However they have stopped delivery on this item - and is a store only deal..

OR if you are quick - have a look at here:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B001EO6PIW/ref=dp_olp_2/279-3319291-6086018

as new for £510!!!! be quick as i missed a deal like that at £450 and it was gone extremely quickly! :)

otherwise amazon does it for £906 delivered!

Ben (bargain hunter always)

Thanks for the replys everyone. I stay up in the shetland isles. Theres no sony store here, but there are a couple of independant av retailers. Most items they sell are at retail price. £1200 is a bitty on the high side lol......so the internet or haggling on the phone are my ownly options.

Hi bootstrapwill,

Sorry for not replying sooner, the only reason for the delay was waiting for a delivery, apparently they had sold ten recently. Got a call Thursday and it's ready to pick up, going to get it tonight (Fri) can't wait, so it was a six day wait. If your interested I will post my thoughts. Not that I'm a tech wizard or anything, not even got a clue on how to set it up, I will just give an honest view.

Had a look at comets web site just now.....They have a special offer on the go. Sony kdl-40v4000 + Sony bdp-s350 for a total of £698!! and they do free delivery. I know i said im after a w4500, but i couldnt resist. I tryed to order, but they cant deliver to the shetland isles...what a *** lol. Im guessing though, that this is just the start of a flood of amazing offers coming our way, in the panic of lower than expected sales.

I have a D&G warranty with my Dyson washing machine. They give excellent service and will send people or parts out very quickly, even though it is over 4 yrs old. They appear to have specifically trained dept.s for each type or make of product so don't be afraid of a Sony backed D&G warranty.
