Hello,

In reading the review of the Oppo 105 the reviewer mentions against partnering this machine with a warm or full bodied sounding amplifier. I am think of purchasing the Anthem MRX 710 as my new amp. Does anyone know if this amp might be a good match for the Oppo 105? It is very difficult to find a dealer here in the states to audition this receiver, as no one has it in stock and it must be ordered. I just don't want to purchase it and wind up regretting my purchase. Thanks to all who may some insight on these two pieces of equipment.

I was reading What Hifi's review of the Oppo 105D and the reviewer said don't pair the 105 with a warm sounding amp. Thanks for your reply!

I will definetly be using the Oppo's analog outputs to the receiver's analog inputs. I will also be connecting the HDMI out of the Oppo to the receiver as well. One connection I know I can't make to the Anthem is the multi-channal analog outs, becuase the Anthem has no inputs for this. That bothers me a little bit because I currently use multi channal outputs of the 105 to my older Yamaha RX-V2500 (No HDMI inputs on this receiver) and I like having that option, depending on the source I am listening to. Maybe I will not miss it with the Anthem, who knows. Anyway, that's the plan..

If your Oppo is decoding audio, then what AV receiver you connect to doesn't matter. Likewise, if you bistream audio for AV receiver to decode, Oppo doesn't do much work. So only one can decode audio, not both. So pairing doesn't really matter. It's AV receiver and speakers that should be carefully matched.

Ok, I hear you. My speakers are the Ascend Acustic Sierra Towers. I Want to take full advantage of the DACs in the Oppo, that's why I use the analog outs for CD and streaming listening. I was basing my orginal question on the recommendation from the Oppo 105 reviewer on this site.

Thanks Bigboss

Hi music first,

If you intend to use the Oppo DACS, one alternative you should consider is to just to use a multi-channel power amp. The Oppo does a decent job of processing and has a limited number of inputs. Works for me.

Thanks jmjones,

I appreciate your response. That would definely be the purist approach, although a bit radical for me. I am not really ready to give up all the processing and switching abilities of an ARV. I want to have some options available . ARC room corection, dynamic volume, switching, Prologic II, FM tuner, etc etc.
