BTW have you heard anything by The xx? I accidently bought their latest album I See You ther other day. (It was in my Amazon shopping basket and I didn't see it. Nice surprise when I openned the box). If you like London Grammar then I think you might like their work. The same haunting bass lines are used a lot... The first album xx is a classic but I didn't like their second offering. I See You is back to form.

How can anyone not be in awe of this wonderful music even allowing for differences in taste.

Talented young musicians making original fresh beautiful music what more could you ask for.

Exactly. Most of my taste is new metal, grunge etc but this is just awesome stuff.

Maybe more would be interested if olly murs, little mix and one direction formed a super band

I'm not in awe... My exposure to music is from the decades where singers could actually sing and my taste in music is mostly black female american singers whose roots are in gospel. My music collection and interest starts around the mid 60's through to the early 90's. Purely my personal preference.

Fairy muff, there is no law that says you have to like London Grammar but you surely can't be saying that Hanna Reid can't sing .

I also like black female American singers along with many other types and styles of music.

Listen to this by Lizz wright it might tickle your fancy .

I am 59 years young now and in my opinion the quality of young bands and the variety of different styles is very encouraging for the future of good music, as long as you stay away from the top of the charts.

Well said sir. I'm 60 and have never listened to as much diverse music as I currently do, mainly thanks to Spotify Premium.

Ditto regarding age *biggrin* What I'm saying is that I find Hanna mediocre, nothing special.

Thanks for the Lizz Wright links but I prefer my music a little more uptempo, something along the lines of: Aretha Franklin, Randy Crawford, Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack, Donna Summer and some Whitney Houston, other artists would be the ABBA girls, Alison Moyet, Annie Lennox, Lara Fabian, Karen Carpenter, Kate Bush, Blondie, early Celine Dion... yeah, I know, there's no accounting for taste...*smile*

If i take out blondie, annie lennox and kate bush then id rate that as the worst list of artists to listen. Id rather not have a sound system.

...and this is why you (probably have never noticed) I rarely participate in conversations regarding particular artists. Just creates arguments. For what it's worth London Grammar are not really a band I'd go out of my way to listen but to insinuate they're talentless and can't sing is very silly IMO. Makes you look far less of an idiot just to say they're not really your style.

Reminds me of an argument I had with a young person recently who insisted ABBA were rubbish. Again, not really my personal preference I admit (though I succumed to buying the two ABBA Gold CDs in the 90s), but I pointed out that to rubbish a band who sold 375 million albums and singles of textbook pop songs all written in a foreign language just makes him look a buffoon, especially as he wasn't even born. (My book on how to make friends and influence people is out shortly btw.)

Who are you aiming your comment at?

No one person in particular, have edited my post to clarify that it wasn't aimed at any one person. But people can't differentiate between 'crap band' and 'not really my style' and that's where the arguments start. Strange really for a forum of music lovers.
