Hi i am in the middle of purchasing lots of lovely things so i can achieve surround sound blu ray vids in my new 'games room'

i have just bought the kef 2005.3 and now im totally lost!

there are no wires except the power cable so im assuming i need speaker cable and an optical for the sub to go into the receiver??

honestly im way in over my head!

can anyone give me a little advice, my basic knowlege extends to hdmi in hdmi out!

thank you

ps if you could also recommend decent brands of cable that would be great too.

Ok you need an av amp something like the Sony DG-820, Onkyo 606, denon 1909 etc connect the blu-ray player using hdmi cable and another hdmi to the tv. For speaker cable i would use Qed xt for fronts and micro for rears and rca phono sub cable Qed psw.

ok the receiver i have purchased is the sony 2400es(the one the guy on another post is having major trouble with!)

so go with the qed xt biwire for the fronts.

can i ask why not the same wire for the rears? the room isnt that big to be honest 3m max.

ah its a phono sub cable i need to connect the sub to the receiver,ok.

thanks

using different cable on the rears is usually down to cost implications as the cable runs are that much longer. but as your room is only 3m i'd personally use the same cable front and rears

do they only sell speker cable in metre lengths?

what if i have rears 3m away?

im so lost also, do i need to buy the airloc connectors for the speaker cables as well?

and just to make sure for the sub to the amp its a stereo interconnect i need right?

thanks again for being so understanding as i haven't a clue!

hi hoss,

the best connection between your dvd player and amp is a digital coax lead.I prefer these over an optical lead. The airloc connections aren't necessary but can offer some convenience.Best bet is to buy 15m of speaker cable or so which be delivered in 1 roll and you cut into the 5 runs you need.Hope this sheds some light on the subject. Its a doddle.

you can buy it in any lenghth you want, so if you need a 3m length there sell you that, its just that the price they quote is per metre. you dont have to use the airlocks, you could just use the bare wire ends or source cheaper banana plugs it upto you.for the amp to sub conection.its not a standard stereo interconnect its a single co-ax(mono) cable. like this.

coola, hoss was asking about amp to sub cable not dvd to amp.so he will need a sub cable rather than digital coax, obviously

hi dave ok, so i click that link and see the cable, but then i go check out their speaker cables.

the first option for qed anniversary is 4.50 per metre, fair enough the next box down is 1.0m pair which is like 45pounds.

but isnt that just 2 lengths of 1m speaker cable?

right, just had a look. the reason its £42 for the 1.0m pairs is that the cable's are terminated pairs.so they come with the qed airlock fitted so your also paying for the plugs. if you dont want the plugs just use the top option where its £4.95 per metre and just change the quantity to however many metre's you require.
