Listen to the What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision Playlist for October 2009

Listening now.

[Edit] Managed about 30 seconds of each of the first two tracks. Sorry.

Trying the rest. The Banjo song is quite jolly.

[Later] Seems you like an awful lot of highly processed stuff with boosted bass. Confirms a lot of suspicions I had about WHF reviews. (Especially speaker reviews).

I must be getting old ... only have 2 cd's from those artists (seasick steve and eminem) ...

I havent gone into it yet, but do the links mean that anyone can now join Spotify and the period of invites only has ended, or have What Hifi done a deal?

No you still need the Spotify application running on your computer.

I mean to even get the Spotify application on your PC. For a while now you had to be invited on, or have What Hifi got unlimited invites?

Dunno. I have been registered with Spotify since a long time now. (Months). Only started using it regularly last week though.

Currently evaluating whether I need premium membership or not. Quality is reasonable and ads not too frequent on the free service. Not sure if I will get £9.99 worth of value out of it every month.

The invite only thing is quite recent.

spotify IMHO should have won WHF product of the year ... (am well chuffed with it ... have heard many new artists and have bought loads of new cd's that I would have never bought and had never heard of before

will be connecting spotify to my hifi in december ...

even my daughter (and all her friends) have spotify constantly playing on their laptops whilst doing homework or surfing the net

A nice and fairly eclectic mix of songs, some familiar* others not so. Which is what it's all about really.

re: Premium Spotify.

I'm getting a lot of use out of the iPhone accessed playlists & the search for just about any song when I'm on the move. It's also great for use in my job, Drama teaching, as so often students want to use songs I don't already have on my iPod.

* Ahead Of The Curve!! Great song, good album. 25% of MMJ plus the other 3 rock!!!

I've only got two (Zimmer, Gladiator - superb, even though this track is really the Planets, Mars; and Mr Beethoven, although not this actual recording). I must be ancient.......

Dead by Sunrise was a Pixies clone down to the bass runs.

Quite like Seasick Steve and have the Editors previous efforts - but this new direction I do not like. Poor Tubeway Army impression. Tubeway Army were doing a poor Kraftwerk impression in the first place! Little Boots' obvious influence is Goldfrapp, but not as good IMHO.

Nice idea though and nice to hear some recommendations. Keep it up!

Glad to hear you're enjoying it. As said in the news story, it's only a snippet of what music we use to test with and is of course dependent on the Spotify library, too.
