lip sync

I have been having trouble lately with trying to synchronise the lips with the voices. I have tried the audio delay but the problem appears to be that the images are speaking before the sound comes out, so I almost need 'lips delay'! I do not have HDMI on my amp - it is a yamaha Z9, so I use HDMI for images from the Sky box through to the TV and then optical from Sky into the Yamaha. Is there a better way to do it, whilst maintaining better quality sound???
