Newbie here needing advice on a new turntable. Linn are currently running a promotion with £750 off a Majik LP12 (trade in any turntable, any condition). Basic spec:

Sondek LP12 with Karousel bearing
Majik aluminium sub-chassis
Internal Majik power supply
Krane tonearm
Adikt MM cartridge

I’d be trading in an Audio Technica AT-LP5. The alternative is a Rega Planar P6 turntable.

The new turntable will be hooked up to a Marantz AV8805A pre amp with Linn Klimax speakers. My setup is geared more towards home theatre than music.

Any advice or suggestions? Is the Majik worth the money (even at sub £3k for a basic wood finish)? The turntable has to be MM as that’s the easiest hook up to the Marantz. MC cartridges require a MC head amp or a step up transformer (according the the user manual!)

Stick with Rega if you don't know how ro set up and adjust a complicated turntable would be my advice.

If you’re in the UK there are still a few dealers with both Rega and Linn where you could audition both to help decide. You’ll find they ‘handle’ differently too.

This would be my dealer of choice. https://www.cymbiosis.com/

You’ll find various articles about the Linn on their website, and a brand new turntable should be fully setup for you. Nevertheless, even at the offer price many will find the price high.

(Former LP12 owner who is now quite happy with Michell or Technics alternatives!)
