Hi everyone,
I would like to set up a turntable & need your opinion between Linn Basik with Akito Tonearm & Rega P3-24.

Which one is the best?

I would prefer the Linn set-up eventhough it's kinda old TT compared to Rega.

Feel free to leave your opinion & thanks for viewing.

regards.

Two very different beasts that do the same job! I think you should have a listen and see, it all depends on your preferences and the cartridge-arm combination. The Basic was a decent entry level deck, for Linn anyway, the P3-24 is a fine t/t for the money.

It's such a personal choice, you are really best to try and hear for yourself. I'd find it difficult to be honest as it stands and wouldn't want to commit here.

Thanks. Heard that Linn requires more maintenance compared to Rega which is minimal. Is it true?

The LP12, certainly, though the Rega needs the occasional servicing too, but nowhere near to the same degree. Not so sure about the junior Linn decks though; I think the Basik and Axis were aimed more at the Rega owning end of the market originally, to give Linn a foothold in that place, so ease of use with minimal manual intervention would have been a consideration I'd have thought.

I've only heard rega p3 but not p3-24.

I had an option to buy new p3-24 at gbp299 after trade in.

Alternatively I can buy Linn from ebay uk

Linn Basik - gbp90
Linn Akito - gbp 150-199

at the end the value would be the same both for rega & linn.

Make me confused....

Well surely the choice is simple...if your English get the Rega....if your Scottish get the Linn

I have owned a Rega 3 for years...and can honestly say I have serviced it once and only because I spilt a drink over it. Its such a tried and tested bit of kit. Not that the Linn is a bad thing either. Best you listen to both...see which would sound better with your setup. But the Rega is friendly/forgiving when it comes to being twinned with HiFi of all budgets/specs....think that is why it has stood the test of time and has become a bot of an ikon.....even my mum has heard of it.

The only thin I would say for the two....is that the Rega feels slighty better re: build quality.

But as someone else has already said on here...go and listen to them both.....or even better...see if you can get one of each to trial...loads of places have that option these days...

All in all though....I'm tipping the hat to the Rega. But I'm a Rega 3 owner...so obviously I'm going to say that...

hehehe..unfortunately i'm a malaysian..giving benefits of the doubt i used to stay in leeds for 3 years...

p3-24 & linn basik

from the above which one give bright or warmth sound??

Both sound great...wouldn't say either lean towards the bright end of the stick...

I think the Rega sounds more detailed...

But it really depends on what you are twinning it with. Either player will sound amazing depending on what your pair it will.

When it comes to bright / warmth, I honestly think the speakers have more of a say in that one.

As an ex Linn Basik owner I can advise the Basik. Its a very good turntable that benefits a huge amount from being used on top of a very stable platform, maybe a slab of granite or something. The Akito is a very good arm, if it comes with a K9 burn it and buy a Denon dl-110, you'll have a set up that you'll be pleased to live with a long time.

Rega 3 owners will tell you the same though and I suspect there's not much in it. It really does boil down to your preference. If its classical and jazz you're into I'd plug for the Linn. Maybe rock I'd plug for the Rega.

i already have ortofon 2m red. will it suitable to be used with p3-24 or rega elys is much better?

i listen most to rock n pop...classical & jazz depends on the mood...heheh
