Line-In Connection Query

Hello!

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place but I didn't know where best to put it.
I'm 67 with fading memory and can be a bit dumb at times if you can please be patient with me if necessary!

I should be picking up a Ruark R1 Mk4 tomorrow and I have a query regarding the line-in connection.

I intend to connect my smartphone on occasion to the Ruark and I have no idea about what transfer rates or audio quality to expect.

So if for example I was playing FLAC files on my phone, would this come through on the Ruark as is, or would there be some form of compression or audio loss?

Sorry if its a clueless question but I'm clueless myself as I've never connected my phone to anything like this before.

Thanks for any help.

What phone do you have?

This can be answered once we know the above but…

Does the phone have Bluetooth?

Does the phone have a headphone socket? (Connecting from the headphone socket on the phone to the input on the Ruark via 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack)

Thanks for the reply.

Phone is Samsung A36 and as with most phones today there's no headphone socket. The usual USB adaptor for headphones then a 3.5 to 3.5 to the Ruark is the idea.

In saying all of that I may be using a Samsung A25 which does have a headphone socket.

I'm not sure where Bluetooth comes in to a line-in connection as I can't remember having a phone which didn't, except for the dumb phones before my pre-Symbian days.

This is so embarrassing but what I've queried doesn't work for hi-res audio.

I've looked at this from totally the wrong angle: hi-fi rather than Android. As I've just discovered, Android has a fixed sample rate for what I'd suggested which is why it won't work.

For hi-res audio through a line-in connection, this needs a separate DAC and additional software (the USB audio pro app seems to be the way) as it bypasses Android's useless audio setup.

I said my memory fades and forget things and I didn't think at the time to look at this from the correct viewpoint when I posted this.

Sorry for wasting people's time but thanks all the same.
