After having lived with the 55” C4, my first OLED, for two or so weeks here are some brief impressions;

The good;

Screen uniformity is superb, clean. No shadows or banding. Colours are very decent, Contrast is good/OLED, upscaling is very good. HDR really pops, even after adjusting. Content looks natural in SDR and there is ample brightness available for even daytime viewing in a sunny room. Plenty of adjustments available. Good anti glare coating which still leaves the screen glossy (which I prefer). Good build quality and central stand.



The bad;

Remote control, very slight green tint when viewed at extreme angles. Sound, colour volume still not on par with Quantum Dot.



Not sure;

LG operating system. It works but when I tried to install a VPN it was major headache time and I’ve abandoned the idea. I am used to Tizen and probably prefer Google.



Fazit;



A very good TV with relatively few shortcomings from my non expert/non enthusiasts view. I could live with it but it goes back to Amazon because of the short one year warranty given. I never watch TV in a completely blacked out room so the finer aspects of a real high end set are probably lost on me. I am contemplating perhaps getting the same TV but in a 65” elsewhere but would also like to look at a couple of sets from TCL and Hisense if I can find them anywhere locally.

Is this LG better than my 5 year old Samsung QLED? With some things yes, others no. Had the Samsung not gone faulty I probably would not bother changing.

Yes, I'm not a fan of LG remote and WebOS either. It'll always be Android for me (Philips, Sony etc.).

I'm absolutely delighted with my LG C4 65*. The remote is heavy in your hand but feels solid. Don't mind WebOs, Android have more layers but prefer OS stability than features

Switched from LEDs to OLED, is a big jump in quality. Colours have better saturation and naturalness.

LG C5 models are out now, expect premium prices.
Also new OLED Panasonic TVs based on LG panels are worth investigating.

I had a chance to go to RS and look at Panasonics and Sony's top OLED TV's, the Z95 and A95 (with an LG C4 and others there as comparison too). These two, I believe, are the pinnacle products of these manufacturers and it shows. I've quickly (and unscientifically) adjusted them from shop mode to a more out of the box accurate setting and oh boy, what lovely panels they are ... at a significant cost. The LG C4 is a great TV for the now discounted price but it really doesn't reach the level of realism, colour range/naturalness and even brightness of the above two, as expected. Are they worth the extra? I guess so if you are a real movie/tv afficionado. Not so much probably for Joe average. Absolutely amazing TV's.

They were making a lot of waves for Panasonic, curious if it had eclipsed the Sony in terms of picture quality 😊
No doubt WHF will eventually home in on this.
