Letterbox viewing, help

Hi all, I have a Samsung 37" B550 & a Sony 760 Blu Ray and for the life of me I am unable to the change or maybe find the settings to view a Blu Ray in full screen only black bars on top & bottom of screen.

Any assistance would be greatly recieved.

A lot of movies are presented in the original 2.35:1 format so you will get bars viewing them. (Unless you select 'zoom' which would fill the screen vertically but end up with you not seeing all the picture due to portions being 'lopped' off the ends.)

Only 16:9 will fill the screen. These ratios are printed somewhere on the back of all DVD/BD cases.

The viewing format depends on which aspect ratio the film was shot in. You will only get a full screen if the film shows an aspect of 1.78:1, like that on Up. this link explains
