I have just heard a pair of the new MA RX6 speakers and I am very taken....and I must say that the Black Paino Gloss Finish will go very very nicely in my apartment 🙂

I was going to look at spending a total of £3,500 on the HiFi, but due to the fact I need a new tv and stand etc....I want to reign the total cost for the hifi back to about £2,000 total. Bearing in mind the MA's cost £900.00 this leaves me approximately £1,100 for the CD and AMP minus cables etc. This can probably be extended to £1,500 for CD and AMP.

I am therefore looking for recommendations on the source and amplification components to potentially match the MA's with. I was potentially thinking something along the lines of :

Roksan Kandy

Cyrus 6 SE

I listen to a variety music from Rock, Dance, Indie and a lot of Acoustic Vocals.

Any suggestions?

With the RS6's the K2's where, to me at least, a nono. Initially impressive but to clogging and muddled ultimately. Probably was down to the speakers but strangely enough, or not, Arcams A38 sorted it kinda out. Maybe these new MA's are better but for me, Arcams are just about the only amps that seem to match the old silver series and those dreadful tweeters. Slightly bloomy bass on the K2 amp.

Drummerman has a fair point. If you're going Kandy/RS6, I would suggest the older LIII. The sound is very agile and detailed, and as long as you don't partner it with a bright source, should give you years of enjoyment.

Cyrus is a definite No No. An alternative would be either Creek EVO amp/Arcam CD 192. I would also recommend Exposure 2010S amp/CDP, or a combi of the aforementioned + Exposure. As most of these are now discontinued, the prices have now plummeted on the auction sites

The Yamaha CD-S1000 and A-S1000 (black or silver with either wood or polished black side-panels) should total around £1400.

Built to last - Yamaha amps of 35 years vintage still work fine with a little care and a service every decade or so - powerful and well received in all the reviews I have read of them. (Especially as a pair.)

Why not Cyrus Plastic Penguin....... I would agree the old RX6 were too bright and forward for the Cyrus Kit........

However I just demoed the Cyrus 8XPd and 8Se with the New RX6's and they sound amazing....they compliment the cyrus kit brilliantly and listened too against a pair of Spendor A5's I personally think the MA's pipped it easily. They are also nearly £600 cheaper than the A5's.

If I could justify the cost of the Cyrus 8 gear I would, but I just cant spend that much on an amp and CD at the moment.

so lets say you have £2400, i have heard the rx6's and im not so sure about the cyrus kit being discounted as the new cyrus 6 amp is beefier and the rx6's arent as shrill as the old rs6's. try to find a dealer that willl audition you a 2009 cd6se, saving you about 150 to 200 quid and upgradeable later anyways, a new 6 amp with the rx6's. it might sound dreadful but it might sound great, and for 2400 cash its affordable with cables.

Just a personal opinion. The Cyrus amp would be okay if you partnered it with Arcam CDP, or another brand that would tame Cyrus's brightness.

Edit - Try other combinations and comparing it to the Cyrus. I think there'll be others that are better synergy-wise.
