I've just read this article from 2008, which talks about the development of DLP home cinema projectors that use LED in place of a traditional lamp, negating the need for lamp replacement, cooling fans etc. I will shortly be in the market for a projector myself, and this technology sounds very interesting. This article is nearly three years old, so has this technology gained any traction? Are there any LED based home cinema projectors out there?

YES! That's exactly what I'm looking for!! (at 1/15th of the cost)

So, how long ago did that projector come out? Has the technology trickled down to any extent yet?

I think this was demo'd at the Bristol show last year, so it's quite recent. I don't think the technology is in the £1000 range just yet...

You're right. LED illuminated projection is pretty cutting edge at the moment so it's on the upper end of expensive (which in the projector world is a pretty high end). The technology will trickle down eventually but I wouldn't expect much in the way of a sub £2k LED projector for at least two or three years, maybe more.

Fair enough. So if I'm buying a projector sometime this autumn/winter, around the £1k-2k mark, what releases should I be looking out for? Do Panasonic release new pjs every year? Might be interested in an update of the PT-AE4000.
