LCD Screen Burn?

I have a 32-inch Phillips LCD, not sure of the exact model, but it's one of the low-end models from 18 months ago. We regularly (i.e. about 2 hours a day) watch BBC News 24, and now we seem to have a ghost of the "Press i" logo from this channel permanently burned into the top right of the screen. Is there any way of rectifying this? The TV is out of warranty, by the way.

Yes you need to replace the screen most people think screen burn only affects plasma but lcd is just as much at risk.
Yes you need to replace the screen most people think screen burn only affects

Unfortunately, this is the first I have heard about LCD screen burn, so i don't really have any advice about that. But if vanman suggests taking the back off and giving a clean with some canned air..... DON'T!!!

Or, if you can get hold of some, I would suggest Rocket Fuel or another quick burning inflamable liquid.

Has anyone got any advice for the original poster instead of extending the vanman bashing into this thread as well? Funny replies though...

Ok, I'm in serious mode now. I'm guessing that as the TV is 18 months old it's out of warranty. If thats the case then I would suggest getting in touch with Phillips UK customer support to ask them for advice on what to do next. Don't try and sort it out yourself, that'll end in teaars. Get professional advice and go from there. Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies. I suspect that the petrol option (i.e. setting fire to the thing) might be the only practical course of action. Whilst scouring the internet, I found this:

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/currys-dixons/27161-philips-lcd-tv-still.html

Like the OP in the above link, I also (in addition to the persistant logo) have a dark line from top to bottom of the screen, albeit so faint at the moment that it's not an annoyance. The logo, however, is. I may try contacting the manufacturer, but I doubt somehow that they'll be interested.
On the new and improved website, we should have a what hifi readers' reliabilty corner where we can rate products we own(ed). This would shed a light on a brand's reliabilty and give future buyers an idea what they're in for. Same suggestion for customer service: rate them and show it to the world.

I'd like to agree with you but Phillips customer care are usless unless the item is in warrenty, i needed a new keyboard they supplied with a media centre i bought but as it was 6 days out of warrenty they went willing to help, they wouldnt even sell me one! even though they told me how much it is! in the end they told me to by a differant keyboard so a new telly maybe on its way!

This is the first time I've heard of this problem, sounds quite unusual.

The problem - if you can call it that - with CRT and plasma is that they use a phosphor coating which fluoresces when excited by high energy electrons (or UV photons in plasma panels), a fixed image will reduce the luminosity of the phosphor, leaving a burned-in image.

LCD screens don't operate like this but employ a low energy backlight shining through switching transistors and polarising filters to produce the pixels. I imagine it's entirely possible that the persistent "Press i" logo has possibly caused the transistors to die or has severely reduced their effectiveness resulting in what appears to be a burnt image on the screen.

Unfortunately I don't see any way of removing this ghost image. I do, however, think the Philips should be very interested in this from a research point of view, if nothing else.

I cannot stand these "Press i" type logos. If you press the green button on your remote it will probably get rid of the logo. ( has always worked for me anyway )

Might not help with your immediate problem but it's still useful to know.
