KRP 500A running in - help!

OK, I'm confused.

I've got my new KRP 500A set up (and it looks gorgeous!), but I'm really confused about running it in. I've read some posts - here and elsewhere - that say you've got to set it with really low low contrast, etc. for the first 200 odd hours and others that say this isn't an issue with the KRP 500, you just have to set it in Pure mode, with the contrast below 35 for the first few hundred hours

Has anyone got a definitive answer on this? Are there settings that will "condition" the screen, or is it just a case of not getting the contrast too high?

There isn't a definitive answer I'm afraid. I've just recently bought a PDP-LX5090 and, other than following the instructions in the manual to use Game mode when playing Xbox / PS3 games, I'm using it as standard. I did the same with my last Panny plasma (which is now 3 years old and shows no signs of screen burn) and I honestly don't think there's any need to "run it in" on a lower contrast setting. These rumours come out of the "screen burn" phenomenon which realistically only affects very few normal users (i.e. non business) who actively have the same image for days on their screen. The idea of running a lower contrast setting for the first few hundred hours springs from this I think, it's a nice idea but I've yet to see any conclusive evidence that this helps. After all, if it did, I'd be pretty sure the TV manufacturers would state it as a requirement in the manual - they'd be ones paying out otherwise.

I've contacted Pioneer directly some time ago (when I bought mine) and the Technical guy told me don't worry about it.... Do whatever you want. As long as you're reasonable with it (like mentioned before - same image for hours, days, and contrast set to max, etc.) it will be fine.

Thanks for that.

Looks like I'll be able to enjoy re-watching my collection without having to change the settings to make everything look more washed out than a weekend in Bognor
