Is this subwoofer good in its own right? i'm looking for a sub to go with my current speakers (very old mission speakers) with the view to replace the main speakers in time. Would this sub work well with big box speakers or is it really only meant to complament the t-series flat speakers? I ask as it's very 'wife' sized and i can get it at a good price.

Like most things, it'll be down to expectations. If you don't expect much, you'll be impressed, but if you expect it to compete with big box subs, you'll be disappointed.

Ideally, it's meant to complement the T series, so if you have a more capable 5.0 set up, I'd look at something a little bigger. If you're pushed for space and need something slim like the T2, try the HTB2se - it's marginally bigger, but with a larger bass driver, and an auxiliary bass driver too, it packs more of a punch.
